GPS Update interval at reduced interval

Glenn shared this problem 9 years ago
Not a Problem

I have Locus Pro and have found that you can change the"GPS update interval", which is extremely helpful for my use of the program. However the shortest valid interval seems to be 10 sec, which makes it time consuming to locate a particular spot, as you need to move a certain distance and then wait up to 10 seconds to see if you have reached the correct spot. Would it be possible to allow the values to be reduced to maybe 1 or 2second?

Good day Glen,

settings you found is probably related to "GPS auto-off" feature. More about it here: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:settings:gps#internal_gps_auto-off . But this feature is an "special mode" in which GPS works. Generally it turn off GPS completely! for defined time interval.

I do not fully understand your idea, because GPS in common devices has usual refresh rate once per second. Values below 10 seconds has no sense because turning on of GPS and search for location takes some time. Even values below cca 30 s are quite useless.

Is my response clear? If not, feel free to ask, I'll gladly try to explain deeply.

Hi Menion

I may have misunderstood this option available under the "GPS auto-off" feature. What I seem to notice, when using the program, is that my position on the map is not continuously updated, but rather at certain intervals. I assumed this was due to the time interval that could be specified under this Locus feature. May this in stead be down to some GPS setting under Android?

hmm should not be.

Try to walk somewhere below clear sky (not between high buildings or in deep forest). How often is then your location updated in Locus? Once per second? Also be sure, you have disabled this "GPS auto-off" feature.

There should be no other settings that has influence on this as I know. You may also try different app, but result should be same.

Hi,

thank you for a resolve problem :) .. but I have question. Why that (gps auto-off) feature active while I have active external GPS (bluetooth) ? If its due battery saving in case of external GPS , it seems to be unnecessary.

Hello,

I'm sure that GPS auto-off feature works only for internal GPS, not for external Bluetooth GPS. Are you sure, this feature affect also BT GPS?
