Locus-Based Tourism Tour Guide?

Swotch shared this idea 9 years ago
Planned

Hi, I am a tourism guide with some 20yrs experience. I am trying to create a travel book based on Locus, OSM, and .kmz. What I need is:

- pop-up POI attached files. User entering in a distance from POI, triggers the attached sound file to open up. Thus, the user gets continuous voice guidance on POIs along a pre-determined .kmz route.

- a reduced version of Locus to narrow down user errors

- maybe the whole thing packed in an app

This would open up new possibilities to create real-location travel books for the first time.

thx

Good day Swotch,

sorry for leaving this topic without any response. I usually leave new ideas and do something with them (comments) when they have no extra votes after long years or opposite, has a lot of votes and deserve some additional work.

From your new post, I'm not anyway sure, if you found any solution for wanted travel-guide tourist app, or not.

My solution is to put Locus on a tablet, fill it up with my routes&waypoints, and give it to the clients. Of course, anybody can copy that so success will be limited.

Maybe you could be interested on building an app based on Locus, filled up with my information.

This would be the location-based travel app. Many companies work on that, and you have it basically done.

Why not invest a couple of work hours and launch it?

Oki, understand.

Then I have to say - stay "tuned". I have something for this task already in head. I just require to find a few free days (rather two weeks) to make it work. Cannot promise time, but in worst case, during start of next year, I wants to start work on it.

Good. I am working on the POIs and routes, that will need some time. I have basically everything in my brains, just need to type it.

Want to have a couple of hundred POIs and maybe a dozen routes for Tenerife.

Maybe you know this is one of the main tourist/excursions destination of Europe.

Menion are you still kind of tuned in on this subject?

Good day Swotch,

sorry to say this, too much work on Locus Map & Locus GIS. Locus Guide is planned, but time is currently my biggest enemy. I wanted to work on it more intensive since start of year, but ...

Locus Guide sounds really good.

Anyway I keep on building the system on the present version of Locus, once you build another platform we only need to switch it.

What I need is, a more user-friendly version (simply by cutting down Locus to the very basics), and the integration of the "guide" data in a complete purchasable app.

Cutting features is not a big problem. "Problem" is creating encrypted format for storing points/tracks/photos/maybe also maps in one pack. Anyway I'll try to do something with it soon, because it may be a really very interesting feature useful for many users ...

Made a little research on Playstore. There are two gps guide apps, pocketguide and tourpal.

Both only offer walking tours in cities.

To make an onboard vehicle app, what you need is turn-by-turn navigation aid.

Media should be subtitled speech, maybe with hyperlink subtitles.

Is that too much to ask? :-))

Hi, I wanted to give you demo files on this.

Hi,

I'd like follow up menion's posts. We're really thinking about possibilities of new Locus Guide application. Would you please describe for us some use-case how would final users use the Guide app? You've already mentioned some feature but I'm not sure if I can understands them. For example pop-up POI or the subtitle hyperlink? I cannot promise that we'll implement all ideas but we'd like to have better imagination what you want to achieve. You can place new comments here or use email" support.locus@asamm.com

Thanks

Petr

Hi Petr,

I am currently on a bike holiday in the Alps so I did not follow up.

In July I am back and start working intensely on this subject.

Back from holiday - cycled 700km in the Alps with Locus...

There are currently 2 different GPS based guide apps as far as I know, Pocketguide (Hungarian) and Tourpal (Russia). Both offer ONLY city walks in the best known metropoles of Europe. Maybe you have already seen them, both are on GooglePlay.

Locus Guide coud have the capability to guide a car driving tourist, who occasionally steps out to walk, maybe to hike and ride the public bus.

I have used Locus quite extensively in the past few years, so I guess I am seeing how it works.

I have very profound knowledge on the Island of Tenerife where I worked the past 17 years as a guide (hike, bike, bus).

I already wrote a Locus-based guidebook, but still there is the problem of user-friendliness.

Maybe we should put up a skype conference – just drop me a personal email to swotch@swotch.com and make out an appointment anytime soon.

Cheers
