Automatic change source for navigation

Hello

It would be very nice if there would be an option which changes automatic the source for navigation. I mean: If there is an internet connection I would like to have mapquest as navigation source but if there is no internet connection I would like to have Brouter as navigation source.

Thanks in advance!

Hmm bad that nobody votes for this. I usually use MapQuest as navigation source because it's better than Brouter. But if I have no internet connection, I can't use MapQuest. So every time I have no internet connection, I have to change the source for navigation manually to Brouter. And I think you can imagine that this is very irritating.

Hmm...

When using Brouter for other than car navigation, I would not like to use online routers even if online, as Brouter with my own profiles will beat them with hands in pockets.

When using online routers for car navigation, I would not use Brouter if being offline, as it would be hazardous, but would rather switch to OSMAnd application and its internal offline car routing engine.

But each user has his own preferences...

I think Mapquest has better instructions than Brouter. For example has Mapquest instructions for roundabout traffic. Brouter has this not. Therefore I find Mapquest better. And Mapquest also show street names. Brouter does this not

It was not clear if you mean it for bike or car routing. Brouter should NEVER be used for a serious car routing, just for testing or for sightseeing along country roads. And if ever used, than never in the city. No doubts MapQuest is better for it.

All depends on use case. MapQuest may be optimal choice for city biking or as easy solution, with comfortable instructions. MaqQuest and Brouter are different categories. Brouter is NOT a true navigation software nor service, in contrary of MapQuest / OSRM or others.

In fact, Brouter has no instructions, all instructions are generated by Locus. It just generates for the destination and optionally viapoints the best route according the profile, and then provides it to Locus or OSMAnd either via navigation interface, or manually via GPX file.

For country biking, Brouter provides routes, that are elevation and conditions aware. Aside of many attributes, I highly doubt MapQuest counts if the track is uphill or not, grade 2 or 5, surface gravel or grass , if smoothness is good or for MTB, if MTB scale is 0+ or 2. Brouter navigation data are elevation aware and Brouter profiles can dig out most of relevant information, OSM map have about the road.

It may not be the issue for bike city commuting, but is essential for bike trekking.

I think, switching of routing is better case driven, than online status driven.

But it does not mean I am against the requested feature, it would provide an option to users.
