Locus crashes when entering settings

Buchy Buchard shared this problem 8 years ago
Not a Problem

Hi there,

locus crashes every time when I try to enter settings. In most cases it starts over. When entering track record settings it closes.

System: Locus 3.13.1, Huawei Y560-L01 Android 5.1.1, Kernel 3.10.49

Older Versions of locus show the same effect.

I tried to create a logfile but taping on report in developer mode just does nothing.

Do you have any idea.

Thanks in advance and best regards,

Buchy

Good day Buchy,

sorry to hear about such troubles. Here is anyway not possible to do any fix without a log.

Probably tomorrow will be released new version of Locus, so please try this next version if problem still exists. If so, try to create a log once more, or you may try to use more advanced method http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:how_to_create_debug_log#general_solution_for_all_android_versions .

Thanks.

Hi Menion,

I really appreciate your help. Got the USB connection working with my old XP... and extracted a log file with comments like

  1. 12-16 21:03:22.328: I/ActivityManager(826): Process menion.android.locus (pid 14469) has died
  2. 12-16 21:03:22.334: W/ActivityManager(826): Scheduling restart of crashed service menion.android.locus/o.? in 1000ms

I will send the log to locus.map@asamm.com. I'm especially interested to know about it, if the phone is doing something conspicious. In that case, I would reject the delivery and look for a locus compatible device.

Thanks and best regards, Buchy

Hello,

this message is too new. First line say that "Locus already died", so a few lines before this should be some more useful log that should say "why Locus died". It will be probably included in full log.

Hi Menion,

in the meantime I installed the newest locus version. Unfortunately the problem remains the same. It ist simply impossible to change any settings due to the restarts.

Do you need an additional logfile using the newer version? I'm still extremely interested to get a hint whether the problem is located on the locus side or on the device/operating system side.

Thanks and best regards,

Buchy

try to create a full(!) log once more, or you may try to use more advanced method http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:how_to_create_debug_log#general_solution_for_all_android_versions

Hi gynta, Menion, dear ladies and gentlemen,

I pulled a complete logfile using the new locus version and sent it to locus.map@asamm.com.

Locus

crashes every time when I try to enter settings. In most cases it

starts over. When entering track record settings it closes.

System: Locus 3.14.0, Huawei Y560-L01 Android 5.1.1, Kernel 3.10.49

I

really would appreciate a comment if this a locus problem or if you see

a problem on the device side. If this is a locus problem, there is no

time pressure from my side to get it solved. I just would like to know,

if my phone has a bug.

Thanks again in advance,

Buchy

Good day Buchy,

thank you for a log, this is exactly log I need. Inside is information that Locus crash when tries to display settings as you wrote. Unfortunately issue is on place, where normally never happen. For me it looks like some weird modification of Android on your device.

Isn't there any update for your device? Update of ROM should solve such "minor" issues in most cases.

Unfortunately from Locus is not perfectly clear place where this problem happen, just a reason. May you please try to do it once more, but with latest 3.14.1 version of Locus? There will probably be still same problem, but I hope that I'll be able to find exact place where this happen. Thank you and sorry for a troubles.

Hi there,

there is no improvement with the new 14.1. I created an additional log file with some automatic restarts and the final crash by opening the track record settings...

Hi, I've expected that there won't be a change, but I hope, that in log will be more precise information then in previous. And it is correct, I see it now.

In settings of track recording is at start, list of profiles. And currently selected profile is highlighted with red color. And this simple task cause you a troubles. Interesting, this highlight is there since begin, so really a loooong.

Isn't there any new version of ROM for your device? Because it is definitely problem in your ROM, not in Locus. Only what I can do is completely disable this highlight, but it is not a solution I like, sorry.

I have already updated the build version to the latest # ..40 and I have no idea, if they provide more updates.

Is it possible to describe the failure more in detail for system developers? What function/procedure/command causes the crash? What should they search for?

Interestingly there is a difference between the track record settings and all other settings I tried. Opening the track record settings the programms disappears every time. When I try to open other settings it seems locus restarts automatically and I end up in the menu screen. These cases are also included in the log file. Each time I created a log I tried to enter different settings and the last try I gave for the track record.

Good day Buchy,

do you think it possible to forward this issue somewhere? If so, I may write there by my own or you may forward them this message:

This is an error message:

Line 4585: 01-03 20:51:13.596: E/AndroidRuntime(4498): java.lang.ClassCastException: android.text.SpannableStringBuilder cannot be cast to java.lang.String

Line 4586: 01-03 20:51:13.596: E/AndroidRuntime(4498): at android.preference.PreferenceGroup.addPreference(PreferenceGroup.java:140)

Locus create "Preference" object but it's title is not basic "String" class, but formatted SpannableStringBuilder.

Because 5.1.1 in source code do not have this problem (mainly on line 140 : http://grepcode.com/file/repository.grepcode.com/java/ext/com.google.android/android/5.1.1_r1/android/preference/PreferenceGroup.java/ ), I believe it is a problem in customization of Huawei ROM.
