More comfortable srtm download for hill shading

Locus has such a wonderful polygon selection for downloading map tiles. Couldn't the very same technique be used to download SRTM data for hill shading as well?

At the moment, I find myself drawing funky zigzag tracks across countries (fill altitude function) or browsing web pages for manual download, dealing with coordinates and stuff. Nothing a non-geek would ever want to do.

Not menions server :-). Well... I guess 2MB per zipped 3" tile isnt really that much anyway. The total size could be more or less pre-calculated and shown to the user before download... like... "Total download size is 123 tiles and approximately 300MB. Do you want to proceed?".

I did some tooling and published in the main 3.16 version thread

You'll get 1000s of grid points for the continents. And with the "show first x points" function you can selectively cover a region or country with a few quick iterations. Enjoy.

Again - like with the overlay for the low level world maps - this is a workaround ...

It is possible to download elevation data per map grid basis - similarly as BRouter routing data - in form of archives, that contain HGT file for finer grid.

The former is 3" SRTM grid 90x90m, the latter 1" 30x30 grid, available for Alps and Scandinavia. Not sure if the latter is usable in Locus.

In this topic I described another pretty efficient workaround:

As the supergrid area of viewfinderpanorama ZIPs is about of area of small countries, and as it is rather one-time action, I do not see a problem, especially if used some helpers to download selected links.

It would be fine to add "download elevation data" button to the detail of offline maps. The area is well defined, so it shouldn't be that difficult.

Hello guys,

option to download elevation data will be available in Locus Store for every purchased item that has defined area. Currently this option was automatically offered for every LoMap, now it will be separate button at every Store item ( that has defined area coverage ).

It would be nice to enable this feature in "Calibrate map" function as well (the image defines area) in Pro version.

When will the extra button be available?
