Slow position update when display is turned on

joeloc shared this problem 7 years ago
Solved

Like most users, I have the display turned OFF during track recording to save energy. When I turn it ON to look at the map, Locus first displays the OLD position (where I was when I turned off the display). Only after some delay (half a second to a few seconds) it moves the map to the CURRENT position. That is a bit unfortunate, because it makes me stare at a wrong position for a while.

It would be nice if Locus INSTANTLY displayed the CURRENT position when the display is turned on.

I expect this is because Locus simply waits for the next GPS fix to update the map position. A better strategy might be to always remember the last current position when the display is off and redraw the map immediately when turned on. This will prevent staring at a screen which might be kilometers away. Obviously, that method can only be used when the GPS is enabled, like when recording a track.

Hi joeloc,

maybe this is only a "wrong setting" issue.

Could you check the "GPS & Location" settings mentioned here: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:settings:gps.

Especally the chapter "Disable/enaple GPS".

Hi guys,

nono, this won't be a problem of settings. It should really work as joeloc wrote. Because Locus tries to keep CPU usage as low as possible, there is no work with map when screen is turned off. This also means, no move of map to new center (new received GPS location). When screen is turned on, Locus waits on a new GPS location to center map on it, instead of center to last received GPS location. Consider it improved/fixed. Thanks, good point.

Are you sure this is fixed? Latest Pro still shows me old position for a few seconds sometimes. Maybe you render the cursor at the proper place but forget to center the map there? Just guessing... maybe I am also running a particularly slow CPU governor on wakeup.

Thanks... one more step towards a "snappy" Locus :-)
