KML Export - Fields

Hello Locus Team !

Actually, when you export a track to CSV, you have these fields : "pos - lat - lon - alt - time - speed - bearing - acc - heartRate - cadence"

When you export to KML, this is not the case, so that, when you look at the elevation profile in Google Earth, you do not have the date and time of where you are in the elevation profile for example.

Would'nt it be cool to have the same data in KML than in the CSV ?

Kind regards.

I am using an Android mobile with Locus pro also when I fly (paragliding), and it would be nice to have the exported tracks displayed with the real altitude (not the ground altitude) with the KML format (and maybe the other formats as well, because many of us are flying !). The DXF format seems to make this possible : " Real (3D) altitude - moves exported tracks into real height above the sea level and displays them in 3D", but when I convert it here for example:

http://kmltools.appspot.com/dxf2kml

then it doesn't work (it signals an error with Google Earth for example).

Greetings

I just realized that I was wrong ! Sorry. The exported KML files keep the original real altitude.

By default, in Google Earth, when you visualize this exported KML file, it shows it clamped to ground, but you can display it in absolute (real) altitude by modifying the track properties. Same for GPX format, apart that it shows it by default in real altitude !

Hello Fifi, Peirre,

as I think about this idea ... what is it's usage? If I extend KML files for some extra parameters, what will you do with it as no program will be able to load it? And if you will write some own tool to handle these files, isn't a lot easier to use already existing export to CSV which may be really easily used?

And Peirre, glad you found an working solution.

Hello Menion,

thank you for replying !! You are right, and as I said, I was wrong with my comment ! It is working OK (the KML files have already the real altitude).

Have a nice w-end Pierre

Good day Menion,

I mean :

1. In Locus, in the track, the graphic can display the duration from the start, which means nothing for my little brain, but not the date and time of the selected point on the graph, which means something for my little brain : "i was there at that time".

2. When you export the track to kml and then open this kml in Google Earth on your computer, it looks like that Google Earth can display an elevation (and speed) profile as this sample that is pretty cool and useful when you need to retrieve important information about your trip (however, this sample displays the duration from the start and not the time and time as i would like and i don't know if that particular option is available in Google Earth) :

Hello,

as I remember, Google Earth has so low number of options, that I really doubt that there will be possibility to change time from relative to absolute value. And if this is a main reason (to see absolute time/date value) why You wanted to add these parameters, then they won't help here, sorry,

What I see as a solution (for example) should be possibility to display track point screen (detail of track point) directly from chart, not just from a map. Currently in Locus is workaround to tap on track chart > tap on bottom map button (that display selected place on a map) and from here display detail of nearest trackpoint. Cumberstone, agree.

Anyway summary: if main reason to add extra fields to KML was this (display of times in Google Earth), then it won't help. I see that this topic has already 7 votes, so I'm curious why others wanted to implement this feature.

Hello Menion,

Thanks for your reply.

So if i resume, there's still a doubt about the possibility for Google Earth to read and display time and date from a kml and it has not been tested yet. And no chance to have date and time instead of duration in the actual Locus graphic display.

Ok ... ok ... I take out my hanky from my pocket to wipe my tears of ...

Cheers ;)

Hello,

I really do not know what is/isn't possible with Google Earth, as I do not use it.

Date in Locus ... something like this? (brace after relative time value)

Yes, something like that
