New line styles for tracks

khkarel shared this idea 7 years ago
Completed

I think it would be good to have more line styles for tracks and routes. For instance I have the folder with tracks that are not easy to ride by bike (I want to avoid them), therefore some style with crossmarks could fit. I am not aware of any customization option to create new line style, but maybe there is some.

Thank you

even more than this?

I often find interuptions of non-solid route styles as too dense, with too short spaces and too high filling ratios.

It is then often difficult to see the information-carrying style of the underlaying OSM way ( e.g. with way feature rich Elevate style ). Most of information is in such a case replaced by a simple fact the route goes this way.

I would like e.g. sparse dots or other symbols, as a breadcrumb marking, with less then 20% ( better 10% ) of way covered by them.

+1 excellent idea

Hello khkarel,

not sure, how should look a style you wants to see. Any idea? Feel free to post some drawing ...

Libor, Andrew ... I have nothing against making spaces wider. Currently space between items was always equal width of line. So I made it now 3 times width of line. You will see in next version if it will be good compromise.

I am attaching the proposal for bad trails.

red line is the road that I want to mark and crossmarks are the "linestyle". In this way it would be easy to mark some trail in the existing map source as not accessible.

I also fully support the Idea of Libor. I have actually the same problem. Very often I can not see the trail from map under line. Something like linestyle scale or gap size / factor to modify gap size could be useful.

Would it be even possible to have possibility of linestyle customization? I have no idea how difficult it is to do it. Input for the linestyle could be characters (space, dot and - (line)), everybody could create his own style in app settings.

FWIW for interest because the line obscures the map details while track recording my current line style is 100px wide x black @ 50%. So the track is just a fuzzy line but the underlying road is still clearly visible. Different suggestion (has already been raised I think) but to be consistent it would be great if these line style options could be used during track recording too instead of just a simple solid line.

I would like to know, if there is a way to change style of temporary tracks....

E.g. when viewing external GPX from MapsItems without being imported. The temporary tracks and Road style share the preference of various flavours of orange color. The track can be confused with the road network, unless navigation hint points are dense enough.

@khkarel: fine, cross symbol added to list of symbol (two variants). Custom definition should be doable, but I believe that it won't be needed.

@Andrew: I'm well aware that definition of track style for recording is based on old method and it needs an update to new "choose style" dialog with all possible options. Later

@Libor: temporary tracks loaded over "items" are defined

a) in file itself (KML or GPX may define style of track)

b) if a) not exists, then is used color and width defined in settings > misc

Ahhh, I see... - I always say I still feel like a Locus newbie.... :-)

But, would not be better to place it into Maps - Points/Tracks ?

Ah! This was main reason, why I created this new structure of "maps" settings few versions before :D ... heh, thanks, I'll move it of course

Thank you for the new style, it's great. Better than my proposal :)

Hi, i have some problem with this style that was implmented 1 year ago.

It's not working any more? Or do I have problem with my Huawei phone?

When I select "crossmark style" I see in the map different style.

Hello Karel,

it is little funny. I was looking on this for a while and had to set same style as you have on screen.

You set, that pattern (vzor) will be white. If you look on preview at top, there are! small crosses between green lines, but because these crosses are white, they are almost invisible. Change white to different color and all will look correct.

Hi Menion, this is really funny. The crosses are really there :). I changed the settings and now it works. I am wondering how was the settings changed to white color - probably due to migration to newer versions of Locus and new phone. That is not important at this moment. Thank you for solving this.
