Zoom in / Zoom out by punching the phone

Hi. Im using Locus on my bike, I have my phone on some kind of tripod mounted to my bike`s steering wheel ( i dont know the proper name). Anyway, it is terribly hard to make zoom out/zoom in by trying to touch the virtual button (+/-) on the touch screen during the very bumpy and jumpy ride, belive me:) So maybe it is worth consideration to introduce zooming feature made by double hit of the right/left side of the phone. I cant imagine any other way, maybe only sound activation will be the other choice.

such an option exists more or less already. just switch "map control" in settings from "locus" to "google". i am guessing the english names here since my locus is in german right now. anyway, after you did this, double tap anywhere will zoom in and twofinger tap anywhere will zoom out, just like it works in google maps. quite easy to do on a bike.

and i totally agree, the toolbar is just silly on a bike, it doesnt work (besides wasting space). copying google maps behaviour is simply the right thing to do, it`s a very snappy app in general.

I was thinking about it a while before and completely forget on this possibility :) thank Stefan ...

so I think there is no need to this feature

ok, but why should I resign from my favourite map control mode? iim not saying i will not try it, but they should be an independent behavious. and isn`t tapping the screen colliding with tapping to unhide the taskbars?

Just try it. If you select google mode the bars only get displayed on a 3-finger tap.

Ok. I tried it. Honestly, I made a positive aproach to this, and tried it politely. Unfortunately there are two problems with this:

1. If you have Center on GPS enabled, and you will double tap somewhere on the map, you will lose the Centering state, and a cursor will follow the place when you double tapped. This is bad, I don`t want to click again on the Center button. The whole idea is to make the zoomin easier on the bike, not harder.

2. During bike ride, the whole phone is shaking. Its very hard to double tap in the same place with the relevant quickness. On 10 tries, only 2 are successful. The finger is just tapping into different place at a second tap. And Android is not recognizing it as a double tap.

So Im returning to my idea. Please introduce some mechanism of zooming, without using te screen at all. Of course Im afraid that punching the phone feature, will be accidentaly triggered by the bike shaking:/

I like this idea... and I would like to remember my old idea: If you have guide enabled to some point, the zoom could be automatic for the best fit showing both positions.

Hm. I can double tap quite nicely on a moving bike. At least a 95% success rate, way better than aiming for toolbar buttons. And it doesnt have to be the same place for me, I can happily have the 2nd tap 1cm away and it still recognizes as double tap. Could it depend on phone and/or android version what registers as double tapping? No idea.

Losing the GPS-Auto-Centering-State is clearly a bug though and should be fixed. It has nothing to do with zooming really.

Yeah. I also think this is becausse of the reactivity of the screen. Or overall sluggishness of the phone.
