Combine Audio Coach and Navigation voice and display settings

When I tried the new Audio Coach during Navigation I was hoping that each announcement would use the same selected voice as Navigation. For example I setup a test with an announcement every 15 minutes, and every 5km. So on a long track segment between waypoints I still received some periodic hands-free announcement. I was hoping this would use the same display settings ie. turn on the display and use the selected "morse" (beep beep beep) "voice". Alas, the two systems are completely independent.

My suggestion is that when Audio Coach and Navigation both operating, that the user can decide whether the Audio Coach are independent, or use the same relevant settings as for Navigation.

Good day Andrew,

can't imagine how these two features may be "connected".

- voice used in "Audio coach" is always Text-to-speech. It is not possible to use any custom mp3 based voice, because of complexity of announcements

- "turn on display" - settings clearly say that this is applied on navigation. Does it make sense to turn on screen because of "Audio coach announcement"?

From user point of view, I was just trying to have more periodic notifications during navigation. Navigation and Coach are providing announcements, so seems natural to me they would attempt to coordinate their actions. Sometimes the road is long with no turns, so you have to manually turn on the display to check when the next turn will be. Not sure (generally) why more OGG files (maybe just 2) couldn't be added to the selected voice ZIP file which are used by Audio Coach for time and distance announcements.

Well yes, they give an announcements, but navigation inform about what comes in future, where audio coach inform about already passed history.

If there will be interest, it should be possible to add also "audio coach announcements" into "Screen on/off" system, but I just really do not see extra sense in it.

And number of files ... if you record missing voices, I may think about it, anyway check configuration files for TTS ( http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:advanced:customization:tts ) , they are really really complicated. And because number of variables in audio coach is growing, it's almost impossible to offer voice files. Btw. why this? TTS does not work fine for you?

Anyway back to original problem here. If you really wants to have more feedback from Locus during navigation, more logical from my point of view is fix problem we discuss here . When this will work, you may simply setup notifications every minute and world will be nice :).

You are correct (of course). I was trying to use Audio Coach as work around for lack of navigation feedback > 3 minutes. It still makes sense to me, but I appreciate your point of view - using the right tool for the job.

>you may simply setup notifications every minute and world will be nice :).

Really? Can you provide a simple example, say notification every 15 minutes? I didn't realize this was possible!!

I though a small "hack" that you already use here .

So you may use 15|180|300|600|900|1200|1500 ... and so one. In case, you will use text-to-speech.

So if you don't mind, I'm closing this idea, as I really think, these two features are not connected. Thanks for understanding.

Yes, please close. Sorry to waste so much time.

Very interesting. More flexible than I had imagined from the CFG file comments. And these times via calculation of estimated time-to-distance are used to select appropriate <voice>.zip <distance>.OGG file then?

Yep, this is correct. Famous "60 sec" speed average and distance to navigation point is used to compute expected time and based on this time use played announcement ( if distance for such announcement is available as voice file ).
