Compass doesn't work

Dear sirs,

Today I bought Locus Pro after testing the Free version on an old Samsung phone.

It's installed on a brand new Blackview E7 smartphone.

Unfortunally the compass doesn't work and also the map doesn't rotate when I rotate the phone.

The phone does see/detect a lot of satelites.

If I have the compass tab selected (I see the compass) and click on "Sensoren" (englisch something like: "Sensors") to check the "Basisinstellingen" (englisch something like: "Basic settings") and click "Oriëntatie via GPS" (english something like "Orientation via GPS") then a message appears saying "Locus Map is gestopt" (english: "Locus Map stopped" ?).

If I click "OK" then Locus is still running, but the compass still doesn't rotate.

What's wrong? What can I test?

Please let me know your findings.

Regards,

Henry Jansen

Hi Henry,

have you tried also other options in the sensors settings? I.e. hardware compass or Auto-change? Is it defunct as well?

Hi Michal,

Thanks for your quick reply.

After a while Googling, I'm not sure if my new phone (Blackview E7) has a hardware compass.

I sent a mail about this to Blackview this morning, but until now I've no answer.

Should the compass of Locus Pro work without a hardware compass? F.i. by calculating the Nord-pole by evaluating the positions of the satelites?

Hi Henry,

of course, if HW compass is not installed, Locus uses GPS and other sensors for calculating your device orientation. If your device alerts you about Locus being stopped, will you please create a log report and send it to us? Instructions are here: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=de:manual:faq:issue_reporting

Without a hardware compass you will only get an orientation through GPS if you are moving at a certain speed.

Good day Henry (and others),

as I see here , you device really does not have gyroscope or magnetic sensor, required for orientation (compass). So you will have to keep current settings => using GPS for orientation.

Thanks also for a log with crash. This issue ( tap on settings > sensors > compass ), will be solved in next version of Locus Map.
