Commute flag for Strava export

Completed

It would be nice to have a checkbox in the Export to Strava screen for the 'Commute' flag. The Strava API does offer the functionality:

  1. commute: integer [optional] set to 1 to mark as commute

How many votes are needed? Can I help implement the feature to fasten the process? :)

Good day henning,

there is no exact number that say "yes, this will be implemented".

What is use-case of this parameter? Why this should be useful for other users?

Hi Menion,

Strava offers in general to those who communte by cycle the option to mark their "Comute-trips" with a specific flag.

The proposal here is to enable Locus Map to set the flag already when exporting a track to Strava. This would be much more convenient than exporting the track and then being required to access the same track again on Strava and mark via web or app the exported track as a comumte track.

Does my description make sense to you?

Best regards

Bernhard

Hi Menion,

as Bernhard Friess said, the flag has the purpose to mark your Strava activities as commutes.

That way Strava can sort out all your commuting rides.

I record all my rides with Locus, which is mounted on my handlebar. After every ride I upload the track to Strava. Most of my rides are commutes. To mark it as such I open the Strava app, edit the track details and mark it as a commute.

I have a special track recording profile for commuting which automates the track exporting to Strava when recording is stopped. When this feature would be implemented, I wouldn't have to open the Strava app anymore just for this one task.

So in other words: Commuters who are exporting to Strava can save a minute each day.

Cheers!

Henning

Good evening Bernhard and Henning,

thank you for an additional information. Because using translation to my native language (Czech) I get really weird word, I was mainly asking to explanation of this word and why should I, as basic user who just export recorded tracks from Locus Map to Strava, wants this parameter. May I get some short and simple explanation or forward me to any web page that explain it if possible. Thank you.

Menion, its prob this ...

From Wikipedia:

"Commuting is periodically recurring travel between one's place of residence and place of work, or study, and in doing so exceed the boundary of their residential community. It sometimes refers to any regular or often repeated traveling between locations, even when not work-related. A distinction is also often made between commuters who commute daily or weekly between their residence to work place, and are therefore considered respectively local or long-distance commuters."

@Hallgeir Gjesdal: Thank you for the input and the reference to wikipedia!

Or simply spoken: commute is the travel between home and work and I sometimes go to work by bike which I record as well but I do not consider it a real excercise and therefore I want to mark the recording in Strava as travel between home and work.

Is this explainition helpful, Menion?

As the other people said, to commute means to ride to work with your bike. With that option you can ride you strava activities as commutes so they dont mix with your sportive rides.
