Locus becomes slow with GPS activated

Solved

Hello all,

somewhere in 2016 I noticed, that Locus started to stutter remarkably e.g. opening main menu or other. After I while I noticed, that deactivating GPS in Locus made it work fluently again. Not that this stutter is a Show stopper, but it is not "state of the art"...especially when running Hardware like Samsung S7 edge...but I notice it also on my diverse Sonys (Z3, Z3 tablet, first on MM and the later on 4.4).

Would be great if you could solve this.

Kind regards, James

Good day James,

thank you for a bug report. Unfortunately such issue is almost impossible to solve without simulation on own device. I use SGS7 (so same/similar) hardware as you Edge version and I never noticed such problem.

May you please check content of map, if there isn't something that may affect this as well. Like some map overlay, wms, huge number of points, tracks ... thanks

Menion,

I switched everything off, like overlays, points, tracks, and other items...no change in behavor. What i can state is, that it is not only on the SGS 7e but also on my Sony Z3 devices, again with different Android Versions. Acutally it is more noticable at the SGS7e. The only thing that might be the same at all device is, that I always (virgin device first install) and regulary (re)copy the entire Locus folder of my main device (curr. SGS7e) to the others. This is something I am diong already for many years...maybe this piled some "shit" up?

Regards

Hello,

hmm don't know. Simple test, rename "Locus" directory on your most problematic device to something like "Locus_old" and try app again. Can't imagine what may affect this, but who knows. Too many files/images/etc. may cause troubles almost everytime if not correctly handled. Thanks!

Hello jtkorken,

any news with this issue? It's be almost 4 months, so I expect that a) problem is solved or b) you removed Locus Map from your device.

I do not know how may I help here with this problem now, but some tests may be always done, so let me know.

Hello Menion,

well, it's still present...what Kind of enlightment can I contribute?:

- no change in Locus behaviour with Nougat update

- it maybe rather seems to be a General "Multi tasking" issue than anything in direct conjunction with GPS, for I also observes this behaviour with online maps while loading missing tiles

- what helps in my case on S7e remarkably with Android Nougat is reducing Resolution in S7e Settings from max to full hd

But thanks for coming back on this...nevertheless I'm still very much like Locus App!!!

Hello,

oki, fine, let's try something.

On Google Play is not new Beta version, so please install it ( here is how to ).

After start, play with app till it will became slow as much as usually, hope this happen. Once simple movement will be slow, long click on top left menu button and you should get "Development menu". Choose only option "Measure method usage"

Since that moment, just move with map for a little more then one minute. It will be even more slow, but that's ok. App will measure everything what happen in app and store these information into "trace" file in root of Locus Map directory. So after this minute, you will get notification that file is saved, so just share with me this file. Hope it will work simply as I describe, thanks.

Hey Menion,

Dont know what you did to the Beta Version, but NO issue with it anymore, while Pro version still lags as described originally.

Hello,

interesting. Then it should mean, that there is not a problem in source code itself, but in some content, feature, you are using differently in Pro version compare to this testing version.

I suggest to check this, there are some tips, that may helps here. I really suggest to check if some map items objects are not visible on second side of Earth, check map shading, some overlay or WMS maps ...
