Draw a line with a distance and a bearing

We have now some very interesting geocaching tools in Locus, but people want always more.

It happens frequently that I don`t find some tag on my way of a multi cache. When this info is the distance part of a projection, but I have the bearing, I could always just try to follow the bearing and try to stumble on the next waypoint of cache. I could also look for interesting locations alongside this line on the map.

At this moment, I do a projection, look at the coordinates of this point, try to remember them and try to draw a line between this 2 points.

It would be way more easier to just being able to draw a line with a bearing and a distance.

Hi,

display distance & bearing is already possible in two places

1. you may enable guiding on any point. Even on the first of, so you`ll just have bearing - 180° . If you don`t see along guiding line you bearing and distance, you have to enable this in Locus settings

2. you may use function "Add new route & measure", where you`ll also see these values along newly created lines

is this solving this idea?

Hi,

I don`t think so. It`s not for guiding me to a point, it`s for guiding me along a straight line.

I want to see a straight line starting from the cursor on the screen in some direction and distance and in some color.

This could be used to solve geocaching issues. I would love to see this option in the geocaching tools in a second tab alongside the tab for the 2 points.

did you tried second possibility?

Yes, but could I define the bearing beforehand, that is before that I set a point? Now I have to guess.

I understand that this function could help me, but I still think that geocachers would appreciate this function in the geocaching tools.

I still don`t understand what you need, that`s why I cannot confirm that "geocachers would appreciate this function in the geocaching tools"

my understanding. You know one location and bearing but not distance. And you want to draw a line and walk along?

You can do it by "Add new route & measure". Add first point by first button. Add somewhere second point by same button and then long-click on second point and move with it, till bearing will not be as you need. Or you may long click on first point and choose projection. Works?

You understand it correctly.

I`m glad that I asked this question, because I didn`t know I could do this by long clicking. This adds a lot of functionality.

The only thing that keeps bothering me is that this functionality isn`t in the list of geocaching tools. I will use it now, because you taught me, but I`m afraid that this is for the most users a bit far fetched. Remember, I just wanted to draw a line, not adding a route and measure it.

as you can see, it`s usage for geocaching is 1% as in your rare case. And also, there is word "Measure", that partially contain what you need :)

so, I`m closing this topic as already implemented (and maybe this discussion helps other people with same problems)

Menion,

You left me baffled with this link: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manu...

There I saw just the one thing I need!

I just have to press "new" for the second coordinate, choose "projection" and there is my solution!

What I`m wondering now is why I never clicked that button?

I think it`s because the caption is misleading. I always feared that the "new" button would clear the contents, and that`s the last thing I wanted to do.

I suggest a more appropriate caption "Import"?

What do you think?

PS: I know I should read the docs one day... ;-)

ah forget on docs. They`re incomplete and outdated because I develope faster then doing documentation. Stuff should be +- intuitive even without docs :)

I`m anyway not sure about word "Import". It`s more "new" then "import" anyway I`ll think about it ... hmm maybe just "Pick"? Sometimes the game with words is really terrible :)

I like "Pick". It`s better then "New" anyway. I know what you mean, I`m a programmer too and find it one of the toughest parts of the job, picking (sic) the right names and captions.
