'Locus' folder not visible in Internal storage

Bob Hawkins shared this problem 6 years ago
Not a Problem

My colleague has installed Locus Map Free on his wife's Moto G4 mobile 'phone in addition to Locus Map Pro on his Asus MeMO Pad 8 Android tablet. The 'Locus' folder is not visible in Internal storage on the 'phone when viewed in Windows File Explorer. He has uninstalled the application and reinstalled it. The result is the same. NOTE: no SD card is installed.

My introduction of Locus Map to him has not been a happy one so far, unfortunately.

I don't think it's a Locus issue.

Doesn't Android expose only a few specific directories when you connect the phone to a PC over USB? I seem to recall hassles with this. Choose "camera" and it only shows the pictures directory, something similar for media (music). But certainly not everything.

I gave up, and use an app (File Manager) on the phone. The app connects to a share on my PC over WiFi, and I use that to shovel files back and forth. So, pushing and pulling from the phone end, instead of the PC end. It works.

This is not a problem with Locus Map.

The first time I tried to copy files to/from my phone from my PC via a USB connection, I encountered problems with Windows File Manager. Sometimes it failed to show any files in a folder. Other times it didn't display the folder. Yet other times it complained about not having access to a folder.

Apparently it has something to do with the way Android maintains an index of files. If the index is not up-to-date, Windows File Manager sees the older index and so you get an out-dated view of the file system. Whether this is true or not, I definitely did experience problems with File Manager being unable to display an accurate list of my phone's files and folders

The simplest solution is to copy the GPX file from the PC to Google Drive/DropBox and then retrieve it using Locus Map (it can read files directly from Google Drive/DropBox).

I wanted to copy files directly between my phone and PC so I purchased a file management app that can transfer files using the SMB protocol over Wi-Fi. I tested several apps and chose FX File Explorer (it supports SMB V2, used for file-transfer by the latest version of Windows 10, whereas others, like the popular Solid Explorer, still only handle SMB V1).

Taras, thanks for mentioning that app, FX File Explorer. I tried it out, liked it, even bought the upgrade already. I'm going to uninstall the app I'd mentioned; it's been glitchy.

Tip: FX File Explorer includes a Text Editor. I use it to edit Locus Map's configuration file and map themes.

Hi Bob,

this is not a problem of Locus Map :)

Check the device memory content with some mobile file browser, e.g. ES Explorer - you'll find out Locus directory is there. Or you can check where the Locus root directory is exactly - go to Locus menu > About application/Support > About application - there is info about app version and its working directory, e.g. /sdcard/Locus.

As I've written in anoher topic of yours, communication between Win10 File Manager and an Android device can be an issue - solved by using a third party SW as TarasD proposed.

Everyone

I thank you all for your constructive observations and advice.

I posted here because my own experience when installing Locus Map more than two years ago and accessing various folders was so straightforward. I thought last night, though, of the one subsequent issue I experienced: saved .gpx files of recorded tracks in Locus>export did not display, always, in Windows File Explorer. This led me to installing ES File Explorer on my 'phone, locating the .gpx files and copying them wirelessly to my PC. ES File Explorer, itself, was frustrating, however, and not making a connection on occasions. I was advised to use Asus File Manager. It works extremely well and fast and has never failed me. Here is the solution, then.

I consider my problem post resolved satisfactorily.
