Simultaneously show altitude chart for track and map, with selected position?

I've been reading through the forum and documentation, but didn't find anything obvious to answer this question.

Is there a way, like there is on many cycling-specific apps, where you can have a map display above with a track on it, and the track's altitude over distance below, and can drag along the track or along the altitude graph and have the position in either reflected in both?

Hi Tim,

this can be done by the "Dashboard" feature which enables you to set an additional layer of digits, charts etc. above the main map screen. See http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:tools:dashboards

I took a look at that and didn't see a way of doing what I describe. But I'll look some more.

Tim, do you mean something like this?

fetch

That screen is only available in the Route Planner: Check route stats and travel time.

Yeah, that's the kind of thing I was thinking of; does that let you drag your finger along the route and have it reflect in the the pane you're not dragging in? (that is, drag along the route, shows where that is on the elevation graph, and vice versa?).

I was hoping there would be something like you can find on many popular cycle mapping sites, like RideWithGPS or MapMyRide.

Hi Tim,

what TarasD showed is route planner with the route chart slid up - you can drag routepoints on the map and the chart changes according to it. That's obviously not what you expect or is it? You wrote about tracks, i.e. lines drawn when recording an activity, right? or directly during the activity. Then partially you can get it by the dashboard, anyway, the chart is not click-active - it just shows your position an route. See http://www.locusmap.eu/hi-tech-bike-computer-from-locus/.

When I want to do is to pre-load a route into Locus Map, and then along the route be shown my current position on the route, as well as current position on the altitude chart, and also be able to interactively select a position on the track on the map and have it show where that is on the altitude chart, and vice versa. I don't want to build a route as I go, or only just know where I am.

Does that make sense? Am I using the correct terminology?

I've already loaded a route/track into Locus Map and can see it on the map when I look at it, but that's all.

I'll check out the link as well, thanks! :-)

Tim,

If you want the same functionality for tracks, and to have it behave like either of the two attached samples, ask for it in the Idea section of this forum. Other Locus users can vote for it and, if it receives enough interest, might appear as a new feature in a future version.

I've been using Locus Map for just over a year and it has received many of the enhancements posted in the Ideas section. The Locus team is very responsive to useful suggestions and the product is constantly being refined and enhanced.

@Taras - thanks for the suggestions!

What apps are those samples from?

Competitor's products. I don't wish to use the Locus Map forum to advertise them. They're easily found in the Google Play store.

I own both of them. I moved away from the first one (after 6 months of use) to Locus Map. The second one I use, mostly out of habit, for car navigation (although Locus Map could easily replace it for that same purpose). Locus Map remains my primary app for hiking.
