Importing icons in vector format?

Hi, Greatly enjoying Locus so far. I am a retired geographer, so this is high praise.

I am mapping bronze and iron age sites here, and there are many thousands.

I like the mini default icons (rings, circles, triangles etc. in four colors), which are generalized enough to be very flexibly assigned to my needs. the standard map icons, including Garmin, are not applicable to my needs. And they are far too big and clutter the map needlessly.

I have assigned all the mini icons to categories of places, and have run out. I made another set of 30 icons, as *.png files, as Locus recommended, but at the small 16 x 16 pixel size they are still too big, and are smudges, no matter how simple I make their design.

Clearly your nice default set are vector icons. But when I make vector icons, I can not import them, and searching your help info, I find no useful info on importing vector ICONS per se.

If anyone knows how to import vector icons, what format to use, and how to scale them down to a small size (or any change in size) before importing them as

Hello,

in the next version of Locus (soon enough), you can change the parameter in the icon name to set its display size.

Good day grodhagen,

we are glad you like Locus Map app!

We are here talking about custom icons for a points right? In this case

  • vector (SVG) icons are not yet supported
  • size of icons, as Condor correctly wrote is currently always same, but since next version (planned on Monday) will be possible to modify it. Name image as for example "icon_s1.5.png". Text "sX.X" say scale of icon, so s1.0 = no change, s3.0 = 300% scale. Default icon size in app is set to 24x24dp (pixels x density of your device).

Hope this helps.

Of course, it also works to reduce the icon_s0.7.png ;-)

Outstanding!

I made a set of 8 X 8 pixel PNG icons, hoping that would work, only to discover the display resized them upwards. Argh! And just as I was contemplating a second pilsner to drown my sorrows, along comes your commendably fast response with such good news. This sounds like a great solution.

So I am opening that second bottle, in order to celebrate. A win-win if ever there was one.

Skål!

One quick question, will I be able to use a value of less than 1, say 0.5 ?

Best wishes,

Oki :). If you wanna play with it today, together with your second bottle of Czech beer, you may try out BETA version http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:about:free_beta_testing , published few hours ago, where this feature already works. An if you try it, let me know if all works as expected and there is nothing more to improve into Monday final version ;).
