How do I download UK maps showing Footpaths.

Steve shared this question 9 years ago
Answered

I have Pro 3.3.1.

I am unable to find any UK maps with footpaths on.

What can I do as I only wanted it for footpaths!

I have UK OS maps on the internal SD card, but Locus won't use them.

Hi Stephen

I can only suggest to try Locus vector maps, that are available via Locus store. Please see:

http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:maps:get_vector_maps

http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:maps:change_theme_of_vector_map

To your second question about UK OS maps. Would you please give us more information about the file format of these maps?

Thank you, unfortunately Vector maps don't show footpaths. I downloaded and paid for Pro because I have seen people using Locus Pro on UK maps. I have them on my phone. Very disappointing if it can't be used for 'hiking' as the App claims!

Hi Stephen

Are u able to show us a "footpath" on any other maps? (screenshot)

Hi.

Many thanks for replying!

In the UK a 'footpath ' is an ancient ' right of way' that everyone is permitted to walk on. These may be unique anywhere in the world.

The UK maps are Government produced Ordnance Survey maps and every walker uses them!

All I want the Locus App to do is use my OS maps already down loaded to my SD card or give access to uk maps.

I already have Alpine Quest App, but was impressed by the Locus Pro App in use with walkers [hikers].

However Locus Tweak used to have OS maps, but my Locus Tweak now does not have them and the app has now disappeared from the App store!

I attach shots of a OS Uk map. The rights of way-footpaths are in green as you will see they are prolific!

Can I get a refund on my Locus Pro, as it does not do what is advertised. It is certainly no good for walking/hiking?

Hi Stephen

in what format are your maps on your sdcard?

Take a lock on "mapc2mapc"

http://www.the-thorns.org.uk/mapping/

perhaps it is possible to convert your maps for use with locus.

please contact me,

Hi Stephen

Are you sure that Locus Vector maps are so useless? These maps contains all paths that are shown on this map: http://cycling.waymarkedtrails.org/en/?zoom=12&lat=53.89055&lon=-2.19059&hill=0

Maps on SDcard:

As I asked in my first post: would you please give us more information about format of yours OS maps on SD card? Maybe it is possible to convert them into the format that can be imported into Locus (as balloni55 mentioned)

Refund:

I can discuss it with my boss but if I can remember we refund money only in case that Locus does not work properly. I have to say that we NEVER advertise that Locus app supports OS maps! We even suggest on Google Play to try Locus free before purchase Locus PRO.

Thank you for your prompt reply and link.

When I click in the link it says WAYMARKED TRAILS CYCLING.with a picture of a bike!

The odd incomplete path is shown, but nobody could use this map on the fells or fields as it tells me nothing! I have tried this map as it is available on Locus FREE! It simply shows no footpath routes!

I have seen and been told by Locus Tweak uses that that the UK OS maps they have are from Tweak. I have looked at their earlier version and there they are! But not now!

They maps do not appear on my Tweak list [just the one you sent] and the Locus Tweak App has disappeared from App Store.

I think I am best not involving my OS maps as they are a 'third party' and as you say you don't make this claim.

I bought the Locus Pro app as I was impressed with the ease of use.

Any comments on the differences mentioned would be appreciated, or a possible refund, BUT I really liked you App and would like the same App as my walking friends!!

Hi Stephen,

I don't think that map that are available in Locus are so wrong. We have lots of users from UK, but I don't want to argue about footpath routes. Locus is advertised as app for hiking/cycling because its features or possibilities. On the other hand I can understand that OS maps are one of the best topo maps for UK. We negotiate with some European (Germany, France, Swiss) map providers about possibility to offer theirs maps in Locus. In next step we want to focus on OS maps. So OS maps are not available in Locus at this moment but we'd like to add it.

Please try to use other maps like: Map1.eu, Opencycle maps, OSM regional > 4Umaps. I hope that these maps would subtitute OS maps.

Map Tweak add-on is not developed by Locus team and it's not officially supported. If you have any troubles with this add-on, please contact the developer of this add-on.

Thanks..for that explanation, but anyone like me buying Locus Pro naturally assumes Locus Tweak is the same developer!

Locus users have in the past been able to download OS maps from Locus Tweak. A guy on a walk today had, he said Bing maps came up on Locus Tweak. But since I paid for pro, they are not available.

As Locus Tweak became unavailable, I now understand why the maps are different I can not use Pro and wondered on the basis your Locus maps do not display footpaths and therefore useless to walkers/hikers in the fells and hills! Please may I have a refund.

This man is one of 4 who ALL downloaded UK OS maps through Locus Tweak, which is now not available!.....Hope you see my point!!

My UK maps are provided by Memory Maps and cost £250, but Locus will just not accept them!

Hi, thank you! ..... that is exactly what I have been told to do by guys on the walk, but the Bing option does not appear under 'Available Maps' on my App!

Which sub heading does it appear? Mapquest? OSM? OSM REGIONAL, 4UMAPS, etc, or am I on the wrong page?

It does not say 'Available Online Maps' just 'Online Maps/Available Maps'/ Mapquest/ OSM/ OSM REGIONAL/ 4UMAPS ....etc

All your help/advice greatly appreciated!

Please click step by step through instuction from my last answer and click on red bounded fild you see in screenshot. In opening window search for Bing and if available mark "OS Maps"

Thank you once again and your patience!

Yes that is what I have done.

No Bing, on opening Available Maps

I have sub headings

Mapquest

OSM

OSM REGIONAL

, 4UMAPS, etc

All these have sub headings, under OSM REGIONAL, there is OS STREET VIEW, but that is all it is a street view. No Bing!

One easy question I can't find the answer to, no matter how hard I look! How do I delete the track that is recorded on the OS Street VIEW?

Hope to hear from you re Bing!

http://www.gbmapping.co.uk has OS base maps plus footpaths from Open Street Map. The SQLITEDB files go straight into Locus. £25 for the whole country.

Stephen

I use the Ord Survey maps in the UK (as shown in balloni55 post) have a read of berkley's post in:-

http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=2546.msg17147#msg17147

The tweak apparently doesn't work at the moment, but follow the instructions under " Do it Yourself" heading and you will get access to Bing Ord Survey maps.
