Solved.. Needed to install HGT files from http://www.viewfinderpanoramas.org/Coverage%20map%20viewfinderpanoramas_org3.htm to Locus/data/srtm map.

Now "onbekend" or "unknown" changes to the height reading...

Wow...I did miss some install info on that point...

Nevertheless, great program!

Ah finally understand. Locus display altitude value next to your center-point from offline HGT files OR from internet if connection is available. Seems you had no HGT files and also no connection :).

Glad you solved it, and yes, such information is missing in manuals.

And you can switch it off under Settings/Map/Objects and Style/Dynamic Height

Locatorpoint is "the red cross", I think.

Ok, Point is clear.

It puzzles me however why you would program it to say "unknown".

If it would show nothing with the dynamic setting set, it would also be clear that it is unknown (without the anoying red "unknown").

And now I have to switch it on in the Ardennes, and off in the flat lowlands of Holland (where 95 % of the country is within +/- 15 m

Hello Edwin,

I'm thinking about it for some time and I'm not 100% sure.

Word "Unknown" has simple reason - there is any problem. If you have offline HGT file, then altitude is visible immediately. But if you don't, it takes 2 seconds till Locus starts to load altitude over internet. And you have no idea if it's already done but with some problem or it's not yet done. In this case you see altitude (all ok), or "Unknown" (any problem happen), or nothing then Locus is still loading ...

Maybe except "Unknown" display just for exaple "? m", better?

Hi Menion,

Far better! It covers in far less space more relevant data: Yes, it someting is unknown, and also the class of the thing that is unknown.

The urgument that Locus would load the neccesay files over over internet is somewhat strange. Most people will use Locus because it functions without wifi or mobile data network.

It would therefore be more logic to show ?m (like you suggested), with a clear lead to where the missing data should be placed in the manual (and how to find them..)...To me it was not an imminent clearity that HGT files should be placed in a SRTM map (I was searching for a HGT map...)

I regard myself af not completly computer alliterate, so I think there would be quite a few people that would benefit from a more detailed manual on the subject.

Greetings, Edwin

Thank you for a comment. I'll change "unknown" to mentioned text.

We also plan for quite a long time, to publish whole downloadable packs of HGT files to our Locus Store. So then it will be simplier and more intuitive how to get and download required files.
