Activating the GPS in the Android System doesn`t activate the GPS in Locus

Felix Gmann shared this problem 11 years ago
Solved

Starting situation:

GPS in Android and also in Locus is activated.

Then I deactivate the GPS in Android-System-settings and also Locus notices this and shows the GPS-Symbol and "deactivated" - everything works fine.

The other way I got problems.

If I activate the GPS in the Android-System, Locus doesn`t notices this. So I always also have to activate the GPS in Locus, even if it is already activated in the Android-System.

(CyanogenMod 10 - Android 4.1.2 - on a Samsung GT-I9000)

Hi Felix,

this is intended behaviour. Menion will surely confirm this.

The switch in Locus actually doesn`t switch GPS on/off but only lets Locus listen to Android`s location information or not. We had a lot of discussion if it is reasonable to call this switch "GPS" or better "Location" which is also received from mobile networks and WiFi.

I would recommend you to switch off this GPS/location in Locus off as well if you don`t need it as it will drain the battery a little because Locus tries to receive location information from the system periodically.

Hi,

thanks tommi, nice answer. I just add short note -

"GPS in Android-System-settings" do not enable GPS, it just allow to other apps to use GPS if they want. If more then one application need GPS coordinates, Android enable GPS and start sending received data to application that needs it. So if you enable GPS in Locus, it works.

If you disable GPS in system, Locus receive information that GPS cannot be used now, so it`s forced by system to disable it. It do not work in opposite way because Locus do not know if you want to enable GPS now or not. I personally never disable GPS in system, don`t know why ...

Thank you both !

I previously thought that GPS in the Android-System-settings would activate the GPS-Sensor.

Well, then it`s maybe not a bad idea to keep GPS enabled.

Have a nice easter weekend!
