Android v6 & SD card problem

John Brewer shared this question 7 years ago
Answered

My Galaxy S5 phone has just updated itself from Android v5 to v6. It seems that maps which were stored on the SD card in a directory called LocusMaps are no longer accessible. I get an initial red warning message:

Problem with custom directory for 'maps/'

...which is followed by another warning:

Problem with file '/mnt/extSdCard/LocusMaps'!

As far as I can see, the permissions granted for the Locus Pro app - Contacts, Location, Microphone and Storage - are all granted.

Am I missing something obvious?

Hello John

- first be true you use the newest Locus version 3.17.2

naming of external SD in android6 is like "D210-9ABC", so you have to set your map directory new !

- delete old link to map

- open settings/misc/Default directories and set link to your external vector map folder

- add your vectormap folder

Hello,

try to copy off-line maps on the SD card into this folder: SD card\Android\data\menion.android.locus.pro\files\Locus\maps (or mapsVector) - depends on type of your maps, reboot Locus and then set new path of the off-line maps.

Hello, Karel,

this solution should work. Just be really really careful. These directories are completely removed when you un-install Locus for any reason, so be sure, you have backup of your maps. Mainly the paid once!

Yesterday i bougt locus pro and have to change download directories to sd card, because of less space on the intern card. So far everything was ok after restarting locus. But the first of the three free map downloads in the store always fail. And the download of German North map shows up a total size of 1615.37 MB, but when the download starts, it only shows up a total size of 1043.03 MB and the download always fail, even if completed the 1043.03 MB. In red it says try again later or so...

Hello David,

in Locus store > Germany (north), tap on small question symbol next to "1615 MB" value. You should get small dialog with exact numbers. 1615 MB is total size of final downloaded map, but download itself is really "only" 1043 MB, so this is correct. Problem that happen to you after downloaded may be connected to one small issue I found a few days ago. So sorry for a troubles and please try it with next version. Anyway! I'm sure that may is correctly downloaded, so you may manually check if there is download file with 1043 MB. If yes, just rename it to "zip" and extract manually. This should work. Sorry for a complications.

Ok, thank you. I tried once again and it worked. The next (Germany South) succeeded at first attempt. And i did not have to look for the files to unzip them manually.

Thanks for the quick response. I think the problem is now fixed.

One of the difficulties I had is navigating the Android file structure. In my case the location of the offline maps turned out to be:

/storage/0C2A-6ABB/LocusMaps/

I went to Settings > Miscellaneous > Default Directories and changed both the 'maps/' directory and the 'mapsVector/' directory. In both cases I got a new warning as follows:

"Change of directory requires terminating of Locus and moving the content manually to a new location.

Read Only

WARNING! '/storage/0C2A-6ABB/LocusMaps' directory is READ-ONLY and may cause unexpected behaviour of the app"

I ignored the warnings, restarted Locus and all seems OK. I didn't have to move the maps anywhere and they are where they always were...;-)

Thanks again for the help!
