Batch loging of geocaches

druki shared this idea 11 years ago
Completed

idea from the forum:

1. In the GC Live module from the fieldnote list it should be possible to edit the fieldnote (add "Edit" to the pop-up of GCxxxx, delete). After edit is done, the same options (save, upload as fieldnote, log) should be presented.

2. if the fieldnotes are already completed on the field (out of network coverage), it should be possible to upload selected fieldnotes as log (not as fieldnote) via a batch (a tick-box is needed).

Aditional information:

As menion wrote in the forum there is a menu in the geocaching tools (down, the last entry).

But this is a bit complicated, because it shows the fieldnotelist (good), you select the field note, you are forwarded to the poi, have to call the geocache details, go to edit the field note, save it and choose to directly upload as log.

For one geocache a day this maybe ok, but not if you like processing several ones as easy as possible (batch functionalities for doing this all from one screen).

I for one would like to keep it the same as it is. For me field notes are just that, one word or reminders so that when I log the cache I am able to expand the log using my PC keyboard.

Stephan on forum remind me this, so ... done :)

It look now like this, possible?

Anyway, I don`t have any field notes to log, so please test it for sure in new version and let me know!!

Has this been removed? I cannot see any "upload" button anywhere. I have

those three field notes, I am online, but I can't upload them. Not as a

batch and not even one by one. What am I missing? Thanks :)

It wasn't. In latest Locus version is anyway changed way how to handle field notes.

Firstly, check if you use latest 3.2.0 version. In menu > more is now new add-on "Field notes", that may be used for online logging or generally better work with field notes (offline logs).

Thanks. Unfortunately it does not work. I just updated Locus and installed and ran the plugin, which says that "field notes not exist!".

What about the notes I created before this move?

Thank you

Existing field notes (that were in fieldNotes.txt file) should be automatically converted to internal database. If add-on sees nothing, it should only mean there is 'nothing'. Are you sure there were any field notes before update?

Original fieldNotes.txt field should be also backuped in root Locus directory as fieldNotes.bak file

You're right. I moved the Locus folder!

Thank you :)

Unfortunately it didn't work. The file is named gcFieldNotes.txt rather than fieldNotes.txt, I couldn't find others- I moved it into the new folder, I also copied it with .bak extension but still "field notes not exists".

Wait, 'fieldNotes.txt', was just my typo, I mean 'gcFieldNotes.txt'. Anyway I still don't understand. This file is useless now. Locus do not use it anymore. All logs are now stored in internal database and if you want such file for manual offline logging, you have to create it over field notes add-on.

Anyway are you sure, that in Locus are any field notes? Is there a cache, where when you display screen with it's details, you see below a map your log? Also you may check menu > settings > geocaching > 'Delete field notes', where in description should be visible count of existing field notes.
