Bearing and distance between two arbitrary points on map for navigational purposes.

I need to be able to define two arbitrary points on the map, neither of which is my current location.

For navigational purposes I simply need the bearing and distance of the one from the other - and perhaps the reciprocal bearing.

This is a pure navigational function. I do not want to create a new route.

Hello Alan,

do you know function called "Projection"?

  1. Simply place one point on map.
  2. Add second point for example with long-click on map and tap on address.
  3. In new point screen (expect you have today released 2.20.0 version), tap on first bottom button.
  4. Tap on coordinates and choose "Projection".

And here you may define coordinates of this second point based on first one. As a start point you may choose already existing point and you just define parameters needed to compute new location of edited second point.

Is this what you want?

Hi, Menion,

I can obtain a distance between two points, but am unable to get a bearing.

With 'Projection' my only options are to enter a distance and bearing: this plots a new position based on those values. This is not what I want, as the distance and bearing are the things I need to know!

All I really want is a bearing and distance line similar to that which is displayed from the current GPS location to the red cross-hairs. The only difference is to have the origin offset to a point defined on the map.

Best regards,

And with many thanks,

Alan

Hi Alan, hope that correctly understand your question. I guess that it can be partially solved using guiding:

Open Locus > Menu > Settings > Guiding

Set bearing for "Draw above guiding line" and distance for "Draw below guiding line"

Then create point on map (long press or user fearure Menu > More > Add point) and from bottom panel choose "Guide On"

This works, but you must disable GPS first!

Hi, Peter!

Thanks for your swift reply! This works perfectly, and is just what I want. Kudos to the Locus Team! Taking time to include the graphic is much appreciated, by the way.

All that remains is to go to the Play Store and update my comments there...

With many thanks,

Regards and best wishes,

Alan
