Registering a new user on help.locumap.eu generates a non-working password

Laurents shared this problem 8 months ago
Solved

After creating my first bug report here on help.locusmap.eu, I clicked submit and had to register a new account by supplying a user name and an email address. I then got send an eight character password via email.

The password in conjunction with the newly registered email does not work (I double checked the password itself, copy & pasted it and made sure that there are not white spaces on either end).

As a workaround I then followed the forgot password procedure, got another email to reset my password, clicked the appropriate link and supplied a new password.

This new password works as expected.

Good day Laurents,

thank you for a precise description of your problem. Hard to do something with it now thought.

As I see in list of send emails, your account was created and as you wrote, a while ago you requested reset of password, so now I can't exactly check why original password did not work.

Our help desk system is solution from 3rd party company and without exact steps that leads to this problem, it is hard to report it and to solve.

We already use little outdated version of their system, so for now, I'll keep this information and in case, it will repeat with any other user(s), we update our system or report it as a bug. Thank you.

Hi Menion,

thanks for replying. I investigated further by registering a second account and running into the same problem again.

The reason for the problem is, that I am actually selecting the password in the email by double clicking it. As you can see in the attached file, the password without anything before or after is selected.

Well, seems that is not the case. Pasting the copied password into an editor reveals that there is actually an additional white space character at the beginning.

As you can see in the DOM view within the attachment, there is a white space only character/text node just before the password, which gets selected as well (though it is invisible in the browser).

So as an easy fix, replace that character with a margin or padding and the problem will not reoccur.

Good day Laurents,

thank you for a very precise investigation, I'm sure you found a problem.

As I wrote, we are currently running little outdated version so it is hard to report to their bug-report system about issue in our version. So I take your bug report as a small "kick" to me, so we will in next days purchase and update help desk system to higher version and if same problem appear there as well ( most probably ), I'll forward you precise bug report to help desk system of service provider. I'll keep this topic open for now, to not to forget on this task.

Thank you!

Good day Laurents,

we have today updated to new version of help desk system also because of problem you reported.

I do not exactly know how "registration email" looked before, but when I try it now, it seems to return correct email without any extra invisible characters as you may see on screenshot. So hope it will be fine now.
