Compass dongle support

Larry Babcock shared this idea 7 years ago
Declined

My midrange smartphone does not have a compass (Moto G4 Plus). Many don't. It would not be difficult to make a compass dongle that plugged in to the USB port (Arduino) and fastened to the back of the phone. The problem, of course, is integration into Locus Maps. Does an interface already exist? Does a spec exist? Possible as an Add-On?

Locus Maps does everything a pricey Garmin does. Love it, hike a lot, use it all the time.

Good day Larry,

I'm always surprised, what users are able to invent :). I perfectly understand you request, anyway combination of "phone without a compass" and "person able to create Arduino compass" is from my opinion very very rare. And because Locus not yet support even a GPS dongle over USB, this is far less important. So I'm sorry, I have to decline this idea. Thanks for understanding.

Please take a look at:

Maybe is possible to add support in Locus?

(i don't have this device yet so i can't test it)

I also suffer from lack of compass in my tablet.
