Continue resumed download of offline maps

Hrabosh shared this problem 7 years ago
Not a Problem

If you try to download larger map with shaky internet connection, you get disconnected for a while and thus download stops and doesn't continue (msg: download fails or something like that). I have to go to map selector, select the map tap download... I download few more MBs and again... Ten times or more (larger map) is not a problem at all.

You can either test it with quite unstable wifi in our office or in car on the highway to Wien from Prague (the part before the Bent on highway to Wien has bad gsm coverage).

well, where is the idea behind?

I'd be happy if Locus restart download automatically by itself when reconnected. Not me, manually. Or, at least, to restart download manually by one click without picking map in map selector.

I have to keep an eye on Locus to check if the download is still running or if it has stopped and I have to restart it. When I download larger map with bad connection it sometimes takes an hour or even more. It's a bit annoying.

Hello Hrabosh, hmm and did you tried for example place "Download map" button to functions panel? Then resume of download will be on two clicks.

Doesn't help (or I think so). Resumed map is not in the "unfinished-paused" downloads. Most probably because it's treated as "crashed". I don't remember exactly, Locus throws some error.

Moreover I have to constatly keep an eye on the phone for quite a long time.

Only when I select map from map selector again, then Locus asks whether I want to continue download.

Quite surprising. Never saw that map won't be able to resume in download after some fail.

Anyway only what you can do here, is to create a debug log right after this happen. How to: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:how_to_create_debug_log

If you don't mind, I'll change your idea to a problem. I can't imagine some auto-resume downloading system. Mainly because there should not be needed something like this. Simply - do not download map on bad wi-fi connection :).

Anyway resume should be possible in all cases, so we should at least try to fix it if you will be interested. Thanks for understanding.

I've just followed your howto. Well, it doesn't work with Miui :-D. There is no bug report button in Developer options. I'll search for that (this is note for you, don't know how many users uses Miui).

Well if we decide for different location in Austria at meeting at Opatov (weather conditions or so), then I have to download the map before reaching Breclav. Sometimes we stop at some fastfood just because of getting faster connection :-)

Ah thanks. Seems that @Michal have to improve our most needed manual page to also support a little bit different system for creating bug reports on MIUI roms, thanks.

Anyway to be true, I do not know what to do with You :). Generally I think, that download maps on a bad (unstable/slow) internet connection is a wrong idea. Simply, don't do it. I can't imagine, how may I help here. Spend time on some auto-multi-resume-tool, seems to me like a waste of time for now. Thanks for understanding.

Also, I tried to read your previous post once more ... please try to place "Download map" button into right panel, and when in future happen that downloading will be stopped for some reason, try to use "this button > continue in download (in submenu that appear)". It should work and it's really fast.

hi,

just to be quick (I'll add this to the manual later) - I use Xiaomi Mi3 and quite successfully use CatLog application for making error logs. Just allow root permit to it in the phone settings.
