Distance rings without GPS

Michael Bechtold shared this idea 9 years ago

Currently distance rings are only shown when GPS is on (and has a fix). Why at all would someone use distance rings ? Clearly to get a feeling about distance from the current point of interest. Be it the location you are at, or the location you are playing with for planning purposes e.g.

Hence Locus should offer to show the distance rings around the map center (additional fast switch option). This may be IN ADDITION to the pot. available, GPS centered distance rings. So it makes sense to give the new rings a different color.

Show distance rings around map center - without GPSfix - sounds helpful.

Hello guys,

we had a small team discussion and decided to support this idea. So it will be implemented in next Locus version without any extra settings. Simply, if there will be GPS location, circles will be drawn around it, otherwise they will be drawn around center of the map.

hehe, I'm surprised how happy you are for one line code change and 10 minutes discussion :).

Btw. there will be one more settings in config.cfg that define color of distance rings. I made an small update where distance rings around GPS location has little bit different color then distance rings around map center.

Well, the happiness has two reasons in fact:

1) the solution itself (30%)

2) the fact that it took spirit, thinking, then quick discussion and just get it done - as opposed to months of vote collection :-) (70%)

You may remember I am a Computer Science guy myself, though way out of reach of Android devellopment ...
