Hi,

not at all, I think so. I'm using combination of offline maps and BRouter (source of routing). To start using BRouter you shoud install additional plugin (BRouter, available ob Google Play Store).

Hi Stawek,

What about the search? Same thing? There is no way to search for the place in .sqlitedb map?

Hi Leo,

as I remember, searching machine is based on: Google, Wikipedia, so you need to be connected to the Internet. You can search offline only your own POI's (saved on your mobile). If I am wrong, maybe any expert can correct me? :)

Hi guys,

Leo, Slawek is right, partially. Offline navigation is possible with offline maps and offline routing engine BRouter that needs to be downloaded additionally from Google Play. Another usable offline navigation router is Graphhopper - a little bit "garage" solution but functional (more info and download links here http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=4036.0).

As for offline address search, Slawek's answer is accurate - it's not possible. Sqlitedb files contain just a XML table and map tiles, no point coordinates data are downloaded by this method.

Hi Michal, thank you for your answer. What is the use of BRouter nowadays if there are maps.me or here maps exist? And they have the same maps but allow full offline search and navigation.

And another questions. Is it possible to download wikimapia map for the specific area and be able to read all the articles and comments offline on locusmap? Does it support wikipedia POIs?

Hi Leo,

I don't know maps.me, but used Here for some times. Here is based only on their own map, there is no cycling/ hiking ways. Here may be good for traveling on the cities (it works offline, also with searching POIs). But out of city Locus will be much helpful.

Wikimapia is availale online, but you can download specific area for using offline. You can also search online wikipedia POIs with all descriptions and save them (all, or same of them) for using in offline mode.

Exactly, Locus Map is not primarily a car navigation - it's an outdoor map app with many features Maps.me or Here are lacking. Wikipedia POIs can be searched, can be imported but their full articles can't be downloaded to offline. That's one of Wikipedia basic terms of use.

Some time ago I prepared map for traveling (Mallorca as I remember, nevermind) and used for that Google Maps. During creating any POI I was copying and pasting text from WIKI to the text box in created POI. After that my map was finish, all of my POIs were exported to KMZ file -> Dropbox -> Import KMZ to Locus.

It works great:)

yes, this workaround is simple but Locus doesn't support direct download of Wikipedia POIs

Do you mean download wikimapia as .sqlitedb file from SAS? Or there are other formats supported by locusmap other then sqlitedb?

How can I download wikimapia map directly from locusmap? There is no wikimapia in the online maps list.

Add online wikimapia maps from Locus Store. It's free. Then download it via the map menu or maps - add - online maps download. Locus Map supports sqlitedb,tar,mbtiles,gemf... see the user guide

Also, another source of offline search that Locus supports is GeoNames. Get the placename file for the area you want from http://download.geonames.org/export/dump/ and place the TXT file in the:

Locus/data/geonames directory on your device. Then choose the "GeoNames and GNS" under the search menu.

Thank you, Brandon!

Michal, I checked Locus Store. It has menu options: by country, by use and by developer. There is no wikipedia there. Where exactly it is?

I meant wikimapia, sorry

Never mind. I got it

Michal, why is wikimapia so slow? And clicking on objects to read notes about them is not supported. Is it like it should be?

Hi Leo, yes, that's what Wikimapia provides to external applications. If you want to display Wikipedia POIs with URLs to related articles above the map, try Menu > Search > Wikipedia. It works above all maps, many of them much better than Wikimapia.

So do understand it correctly: there is no way to have locusmap show wikimapia text descriptions? Even if I download the map with sas planet?

Honestly, I haven't heard of SAS Planet until now. Locus Map supports these map formats: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:maps_external. Also maps packed with other objects in KML or KMZ files can be imported.
