Endless search for satelites -

myneur shared this problem 11 years ago
Not a Problem

Sometimes locus endlessly search for satelites tens of minutes below a clear sky without getting the position.

On screenshot you can see the state:

a) GPS search icon is fleshing

b) 7/10 satellites are located - enough to locate a device

c) last GPS fix is couple of minutes ago

(the top left warning message is just data roaming disabled - nothing affecting the GPS)

It happen rarely, but even after just couple of minutes of sleeping - so it was not an initial localisation.

One day in Africa, GPS was not able to locate itself even for a whole day.

May be it is a Android problem but I don`t understand why locus show enough satellites but doesn`t locate itself.

Hello Myneur,

hmm firstly, you need four satellites to get valid location, BUT also a good configuration of these satellites. Best is spread over whole hemisphere

anyway on your screenshot, all looks good and there should not be a problem to get valid location.

so there is also one more thing. Some phones use A-GPS. A means "Assistent". That mean that GPS use some data downloaded from internet to get GPS FIX quickly. Unfortunately some GPS units do not allow to get this FIX when data are invalid and these files remain valid usually for 7 days. So for these cases suggest to go to "menu > settings > GPS > Reset A-GPS data", which force GPS unit to get fresh GPS data. This may helps ...

I also suggest to test any other application. I`m sure it will not be Locus problem. GPS system in Android device works in simple way. Android itself handle GPS. Locus can only say to system "hey, now give me all GPS locations since now" and then later "enough, thanks" :). There is no chance to have influence on some special computations that are done on background

Hi myneur,

on my phone LG P970 Android v2.3.4) I can choose in the so called hidden menu if I want to use AGPS (with internet connection) or location estimate (data only from satellites).

With the latter I get my fix (even after a reboot) within 10 sec.

You can try GPS status and toolbox to test:

Sometimes the GpsFix application can help. You can add it to the Locus` right panel as a shortcut
