Filtering geocaches

Hi there.

I don't know if this is a bug, but I found something odd when filtering geocaches in the waypoints folder.

In the basic window, everything is filtering correctly, but if I use the filter options in the geocaching window, I can not activate the filter in the map pressing the filter icon. I need to go to the option menu and choose "Show on map".

Is this the way it should be?

Regards.

Good day,

filtration dialog is described here ( http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:points:management#points_list_bottom_panel ) if we are talking about same screen. Anyway agree that exactly how it works is not clear on first look.

When you set some filter parameters in this dialog and press "filter", filter is then applied on list of points, BUT! it does not change what is visible on the map! So it is on you to select points you wants to see on map from filtered list ( by for example "show all" button, or use this "Show on map" button that do this for you and display all points that match filter immediately.

Did I help you? Feel free to ask if something is not clear.

Hi, Menion.

Thank you for your reply.

Ok, I've just confirmed that both tabs "Basic" and "Geocaching" behave in the same way. The way the points are displayed it's the odd part, because the points are not showed automatically in the map. As you said, we have to use the "show all" button or the "show on map", which is not very intuitive and leads to very confusing situations.

For example:

if I have 1000 caches and I filter out the traditional cache type, the list gets updated (it shows only, mystery, multi, wherigo, etc.), but the map is not updated. How can I update the map from the list only?

Locus is the best app I've ever tried and it even made me ditch my Oregon 600 (lol), but in general, the filtering of the folder points is a bit confusing. It would be great to make the filter apply automatically to the map, because that's the expected behaviour when filtering points...

Hello,

understand. On second side this system is really flexible. It allows you to filter for example only not found traditional caches in 5 km range, display result of this filtering and choose only first few caches (by tap on 'eye' symbol on right). Then open filter again and filter for completely different cache and again choose just some of them to display, etc.

With instant apply of filter on all points and it's automatic display on the map may lead to loose of selection of some already visible points etc.

Anyway I see it probably too complicated and my try to make it usable in all possible situations make it even worst :). I have plans to improve this filtering system (hopefully soon), so I'll try to focus more on simplicity. Thanks for feedback!

Anyway hope that current system is clear for now and till we find better working system, it will be useful for you.

The actual filter works fine when you're not on the field, when planning a trip or checking what's available in a certain area.

But for example, if I do the example you've proposed, the list shows me the correct caches, but if I go to the map I see all the caches in existence. The filter doesn't help me that way (unless I go to the filtering window and choose "show in map" in the hidden menu)

Maybe if there was an option to make the filter live automatically, or create a visible option in the listing window to make it live (or show in map).

As a side idea, it could also be created favourite filters that, when selected, always activated the filter live in the map.
