Function panel double-tap call-up unresponsive

Richard Keyworth shared this problem 8 years ago
Solved

Onda V919 3G Aircore8, cheap Chinese HD screen 10" tablet, Android 4.4.2, rare Android tablet with 4x3 (2048x1536) screen. App is generally OK (sometimes fails to load odd tiles), except that screen double-tap rarely works first time. It always works after 2... 3... 4... attempts but this is not good, especially when I'm in a hurry to access map, or driving, etc. I haven't noticed any other lack of screen response on this tablet, either in Locus Pro or any other apps.

Thanks. locus is best ever!!

Good day Richard,

really hard to say where may be a problem here. In such cases is best option to describe a problem so I may simulate it. But in this case, you describe it well and I don't remember I ever had some repeatable serious problems with double tap.

You wrote "rarely works first time". What means "first time"? First time when you start application or first time you see a map screen after some other tasks (like work in map manager, etc.)?

Anyway I'm worried I'll have to suggest you disabling of double tap feature, so display of panels permanently. I believe it won't be serious problem on such big screen.

I have the same issue with the other mode: My panels come up on threefinger-tap and it also rarely works first time.

Seems to me that the problem gets worse the more points and/or tracks are displayed on screen. Maybe Locus misinterprets the threefinger-tap as onefinger-tap when some selectable item is close to one finger? Or it is a timing issue because Locus somehow "traverses" the list of visible items? Just a wild guess...

Hi MenionI opened your reply re my brilliant, superb idea for improving beeps before your kind attention to my minor problem.  In fact, the problem occurs every time I wish to access a function panel, so this takes me, say 5 seconds, rather than half a second quick double tap. (..double tap...wait a second..  double tap...wait a second..  double tap...wait a second...  double tap..panels appear).  It's an irritation rather than a real problem.  I expect it's a consequence of using a cheap tablet which otherwise is very good, if a bit jerky at times.

Thanks and best regards,

Richard

Early on, on a different device (Nexus 5), I tried the 3 tap (Google?) and thought I had locked myself out of any app control at all, so reverted to standard taps as soon as I could!

Menion, take your point about disabling panel hide, but that would be a great shame, as in my opinion, uncluttered full-screen map display is the crowning glory of Locus, not found on any other map app I have seen.  Richard

Richard, joeloc, sorry ... but I don't have same problem on any device and without simulation of same problem repeatedly on own device, I'm unable to solve it :/.

Did you try with a lot of tracks? And some bubbles and stuff? Import http://www.alpenzorro.de/makekml.php?trip=all and scroll somewhere into the alps. I can almost guarantee that threefinger-tapping will be completely unreliable on a screen like this:

Oh... and while doing this... shed a tear or two about Locus amazing 2-fps-zooming-performance :-)

Further tests reveal that three-finger-tap is NOT recognized when one of the fingers is on a bubble or track name or maybe just close to one of those features. With a screen like above, I can easily three-finger-tap 5 times and only have it work ONCE.

Thanks for sharing a file.

Testing on older SGS2 and well, works nice and FPS is definitely higher then 2 :). Anyway I've found a problem in timing ( testing if tap was two-(three)-finger tap or not. Time was too short and tap was usually ignored.

So it seems to me like not a problem with lags, but problem in inner logic itself. We (You) will see in next version anyway I think that this problem should be fixed now.

Thanks, Menion.  I'm not using much at the moment but will take a look later.

Best regards,

Richard
