GPS auto-off and track recording

I'm trying to find carification on how GPS auto-off and track recording work when both is enabled.

Let's say I have set a track recording profile that records every 60 seconds.

What happens when the 60 sec have passed?

Does track recording trigger GPS to get a fresh location from GPS which then enables and searches until the minimum accuracy defined in GPS auto-off or max search time is reached?

Or does it simply use the last known GPS location? So it would make little sense to have a profile with a lower recording interval than set for GPS auto-off?

What if I set minimum accuracy in GPS auto-off to 15m with max 60 sec search time to make sure I get the best possible position and set required accuracy in the recording profile to 30m to make sure a point is captured even when it's not possible to achieve 15m accuracy?

Hello,

GPS auto-off has highest priority. So if you have track recording for very 60 s, then it waits till GPS auto-off enable GPS and send to Locus valid location.

"What if I set minimum accuracy in GPS auto-off to 15m with max 60 sec

search time to make sure I get the best possible position and set

required accuracy in the recording profile to 30m to make sure a point

is captured even when it's not possible to achieve 15m accuracy?"

This won't work. As I wrote above, GPS auto-off has highest priority, so only locations that are valid for GPS auto-off may be forwarded to other features in Locus.

Hope this gives you answer you need.

Hi Menion,

thank you for your reply!

Understood, I'll have to change my settings...

It does however also mean, that with auto-off you can save power but will never have good precision, even if it were possible? If so, can we please change this into a feature request? :-)

Especially in the mountains I've had auto-off really fail on me with terrible recorded tracks... but I can't disable it because of power constraints of a long trip.

I would love it if auto-off would attempt to get the best possible position for x seconds and if that were recorded. Because then I would set it to to search for 60 sec and do that every 5, 10, maybe even 15 minutes. Great power saving with best possible data quality and very much sufficient for the speeds achieved in mountaineering :-)

I think, it should be already possible.

1. Set GPS Auto-off as you want.

2. set track record to 1s/1m (so it will record every location) and set "Required accuracy" to same value!! as GPS auto-off "Min accuracy"

This should cause, that every time, GPS Auto-off find required location, it wil be stored to track record and then GPS auto-off, turn GPS off on defined time.

I personally do not test it, but I'm sure, it should work in this way.
