GPS keeps turning off

Hi,

I'm using Locus Map Pro v3.30.4. GPS "disable when hidden" is turned off, and "GPS auto-off" is disabled too. However, if I turn off the screen for a while, and I turn it back on, the GPS is turned off, and I have to go to the menu in the top right corner, and tap the screen to turn it on again. It is very annoying, that it always disables itself. Do you have any ideas why it is happening?

Hello,

this is usually caused by some kind of OS battery optimization. So first of all, please look at this FAQ page and check if it will help you.

Then you could possibly try to enable Settings -> GPS and location -> Google Services assisted location

Please let me know if these steps helped or not and also possibly what device and which Android version you are using.

Best Regards

Milan

Hi,

Thanks, most probably this will be the issue. I've switched off battery optimization for Locus. If the problem occurs again, I'll be back. Thank you for the help!

The only thing that helps on my P8lite is the "GPS Locker" app. It keeps GPS on, even if the system tryes to save battery.

Hello,

yes, Huawei and also Xiaomi phones are currently the most problematic regarding this problem. Thanks for the tip for the 3rd party app that helped you solve the problem.

I have the same problem with Samsung S8 and Android 8. Is there any other solution like the third party apps. They also need a battery.

Hello,

have you tried switching on

1) Settings -> GPS and location -> Google Services assisted location and/or

2) Settings ->Miscellaneous ->Locus Map as service

and see if that helps on your S8?

Also Otfried Berges has mentioned 3rd party app "GPS Locker" which I haven't tried but which might solve your problem for the time being until this is resolved.

Disabling the battery optimization did not help at all :(

Hello,

sorry to hear that, could you please tell me what kind of phone and which version of Android you are using?

Have you tried switching on Settings -> GPS and location -> Google Services assisted location?

Also could you please try turning on Settings ->Miscellaneous ->Locus Map as service and see if Locus Map still gets killed?

Thank you

Yes, I've tried switching to Google services based location too, but the result is the same :( my phone is nexus 5x, android 8.1

And even when running Locus Map as service enabled?

Do you have similar trouble with other apps on your phone (GPS not receiving updates in the background, background apps getting killed)?

Yes, there are some limitations in Android 8.0, but with Settings ->Miscellaneous ->Locus Map as service enabled the app should be considered as running in the foreground and therefore at least formally should continue to receive GPS updates and stay alive.

Could you please confirm that you are

1) running Locus Map as service and that

2) you have disabled Power Saving Mode in you system and that

3) you have tried to add Locus Map to "Unmonitored apps" in App Power Monitor (don't have Samsung S8 at hand but I believe App Power Monitor should be some kind of Samsung-specific power manager).

Thank you very much,

Milan

Hi,

I've got a new phone, Oneplus 5T last week. I installed LineageOS 15.1 on it, and the problem is resolved for me, because the GPS won't turn off at all. I didn't touch any settings in the Locus app, and it just works.

Hello,

thank you for the info that the latest LineageOS runs correctly. LineageOS should indeed run smoothly because it should not use any vendor-specific optimizations&bloatware altering standard Android OS behavior.

Not really straightforward and user-friendly solution though :) But definitely good to know there is this option.

Have a nice day,

Milan
