GPS location simulator

Completed

Would it be possible to simulate GPS location by switching GPS off and then moving the center cross on the screen? At least for POI alert?

It already almost works, but POI alert does not show the distance in WPT label, if GPS is off.

Some other functions might also benefit, when you can travel in the safety of your couch and simultaneously test tracks, navigation etc..

Some time ago I needed such feature while geocaching. It was necessay to find the distance of several points (informations) compared to one calculated coordinate. At this time I used GeOrg (where I can set the actual coordinates manually) and I would apreciate to have such feature in Locus.

Hi,

there are external apps available for this purpose:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/de...

https://play.google.com/store/apps/de...

https://play.google.com/store/apps/de...

https://play.google.com/store/apps/de...

All are for free (donation/pro versions available). Try them out, maybe you`ll find similar ones. After choosing the right application for you, you can place a shortcut on the right panel to direclty launch this app.

For advanced users, I even can think of some nice workarounds.

Imagine the possibilities to have an exported track synced with the "kml folder" from GPS Route Simulator. Syncing can done with this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/de...

In combination with Tasker you could set up some real phantastic system:

Launching external apps and/or processes directly from right panel is a real PRO feature!!!

Have a nice play :D

Hi, thanks to berkley for the links. Tasker looks very interesting to me (also for other tasks).

This evening I tried several Apps for faking GPS to simply set position for use (by simple interacting) with Locus (i.e. with POI alert/distance display on the fly).

Unfortunately I could not find a solution that fits my wishes:

- set the position from the Locus map center (i.e. if i created crossing lines or circles...)

- set the position manually in my favorite used format (as I set in Locus).

- set the position from a Locus waypoint or an aditional waypoint of a geocache

It would be great to have such a feature directly in Locus.

Lets see if we can get some votes for this...

Maybe the topic title is too fancy?

Simplifying druki`s idea even more:

Would it be possible to use map center as the current position in Locus when GPS is switched off? This is currently the case at least with guiding (blue line from map center to target).

Hi Stebu,

are you sure it do not work for POI alert in same way as for guiding?

with simulation of navigation it works also but there is one problem. Time to cross is computed from distance and speed and when you just move with map, you still have 0 speed.

Hi Menion,

it works with POI alert, but the POI boxes do not show the distance to the map center :(

Maybe an "if statement" that should be modified :)

not just "if" ... but everything is possible ;)

Thanx! Config.cfg is OK for me.

Does this work with 2.4 pro or do I need to load a testing version?

stebu,

I was just thinking about it and I don`t know why I even disabled visible distance when GPS is off :)

- so I removed new settings from config file :).

final solution:

- distances when POI alert is active will be visible even if GPS is off

- to make locus simulate movement, you may use "speed_for_moving_cursor_when_gps_off" settings in config file

this will be since next 2.4.1 version, so you have to wait probably till friday

That`s what I was wondering, too :)

Thanks, I can wait until Friday

I tried the alert with GPS off, it works just as I hoped, thanks again.

A minor "ugly" thing. If I exit Locus with alerts active, it will not shut down, this is OK.

But if I activate Locus from the Alert icon and then disable alert, a "Stop" button appears on the top center of the screen? It will not go away, I have to restart Locus to make it disappear.

I do not use "Alert until stopped" setting, only "Alert once".

But this is a minor problem, can wait until the next time Alert is modified.
