Is it possible to change the second Dasboard Screen on (Android) Wear OS Smartwatch?

Hello,

I didn't find the possibility tp change the second Dasboard Screen on (Android) Wear OS of my Smartwatch.

The first dasboard displays "Pause", "Stop" and "Waypoint" Buttons as well as Distance and Duration. The second dashboard displays Speed (in motion), Speed, Height up and Height Down.

I would like to exchange some of the fields on the second dashboard e.g. by the current heart rate - as this is essential information while I am training.

Thanks,

Tobias

Hello Tobias,

it is currently not possible but I have been actually working on this today and the idea is to make the second screen/dashboard's layout as 2x1 and then add the 3rd (and maybe even 4th) screen as the 2x2 layout (the same one as used currently in the second screen). This number of screen and layout would be fixed.

But the main thing is that "cells" in the dashboard could then be long pressed and then you could select from the list of available statistics to use in that cell.

Would this be enough to make you satisfied (even though the number of screens and layout would be fixed)?

Best Regards

Hello,

First of all thank you very much for your fast reply. Really great to get support like this.

And of course I am even more delighted to hear that you are actually working on a solution. If I understand your proposal correct, it is exactly what I would need! If the cells of the dashboard are adaptable like the statistics on the phone, that's all I need.

In my concrete case I would like to show current heart rate and average heart rate, as I use this information for my training while running.

Any idea on the effort and duration for the development? Let me know if you need a beta tester ;)

Best regards,

Tobias

Hello Tobias,

HRM is the other thing that should be in the update, which I have been promising to other users for some time now. HRM is a bit tricky in our solution because with current technical limitations it is required to constantly synchronize HR with Locus Map on the phone.

That said I would like to release the update within two weeks since the update is already long overdue as it is. I would definitely be glad for some feedback when the update goes out, so you could possibly write me then whether it is working fine and what you like/dislike about the update.

Thanks,

Milan

Hi Milan,

Ok, understand. Just curious: Do you know if other apps with similar HRM functionality ate fighting with the same technical limitations or do they have another approach?

Two weeks sounds great though. Looking forward to it and will be happy to shoot you my feedback.

Thanks again and best regards,

Tobias

Hi,

the limitation is caused by the fact that the add-on currently requires constant on-going synchronization with the phone (primary to support on-demand map rendering). We could make make the watch app stand-alone, which some other apps also do, and enable track-recording without using your phone and synchronize the recorded track later (e.g. back at home) when the phone becomes available.

The only real problem of this solution is time&budget to develop it so it is not currently planned, but we will see in the future how many users can the add-on attract and whether Wear OS ecosystem is growing.

Have a nice day,

Milan

Hi Milan,

Oh ok. I think we have a misunderstanding then. I'm not intending to use a HRM of my SmartWatch. I want to use a chest band that is connected to my phone via blutooth.

Best regards and have a good start into the week,

Tobias

Hello Tobias,

the beta version 1.1.2 of the Wear for Locus Map is out.

If you are not already you can opt-in to become a beta tester via this link.

The version now has configurable values in the dashboard and should be capable of synchronizing heart rate with Locus Map (enabled in menu settings).

Any testing or feedback is very welcome :)

Have a nice day,

Can you me explain how can i activate and synchronize the Heart Rate Measurement?

Hello Danjel,

thank you for your interest :) You can also post any feedback in Wear for Locus Map section of Locus Forum, either in existing beta topic or even create a new topic for the version or any issue you might have.

Regarding HRM - can you see a settings "button" in the main menu (i.e. application navigation drawer)? In the settings there is only one item that asks whether to enable HRM. When clicked it should ask for a permission to use body sensors. If you approve the HRM synchronization should be enabled.

I found the Settings. I can activate the Setting on my Smartwatch.

Its possible start Locus Map Recording and parallel Start Polar App on my Smartwatch and both got the Heart Rate Measurement.

Danjel, super, good to hear.

It would be great, if you plan on testing the HRM recording feature, to maybe compare it roughly with the other app. Mainly to see if there are gaps in the HRM chart because the add-on is currently programmed to drop HR samples if the OS signals low sensor accuracy. I am curious if and how often these HR missed samples will happen with other people, since I have seen quite a few during my testing but I am still not sure whether to sacrifice more accuracy and maybe introduce some custom filtering to make the HRM more "continuous and gap-free".

Hi Milan,

After 5 Workouts with the Wear Beta and the new adaptable dasboards on the watch, I am still very excited. Again: I am mainly using it to display the Heart Rate of my Polar Chest band. It works like a charm.

I didn't encounter any issues so far.

So thanks again for being so fast on this request.

Best,

Tobias

Hello Tobias,

thank you for your help and testing. I am glad everything seems OK.

There will be another beta soon, maybe even tomorrow, but basically everything should hopefully work as it is working now. If you notice any problems after the next beta update though, please let me know.

Have a nice day,

Milan
