LoMaps theme making – No k="landuse" v="residential" tag?

IG shared this thanks 3 months ago

Hi, adapting a theme to use with LoMaps showed a strange phenomenon: city/town areas wouldn't change to k="landuse" v="residential" rules. Actually it seems that these areas are just "transparent" and k="natural" v="nosea" changes their colour... at least with external themes like HiLo, Waymark. Interestingly the built-in themes like Hike & bike can colour these areas.

EDIT:

In the source of the internal theme I've found a non-standard(?) k="lm_landuse" v="residential_city|residential_village" tag and using it in the new theme works now. Sorry for the question, switched to Thanks.

Hi,

Thank you :). You're right LoMaps uses custom (non-standard) areas to highlight residential areas. These custom areas are created based on position of buildings and also combines the landuse=residential areas. To avoid duplication the landuse=residential areas are not included in LoMaps. I hope that you get better result with custom areas than default OSM landuse.

Thank you

Hi,

Yeah, it seems like it uses the buildings' shapes somehow to define the area, so I can see when the buildings are missing from the map file (but they are there IRL of course) those areas can be "empty" despite the streets are there on the map. So to work this custom area stuff right all buildings must be mapped which is not the case with OpenStreetMap yet :)

You're right but this is probably the best workaround how highlight city areas.
