Option to automatically show additional cache waypoints

niximor shared this idea 12 years ago
Completed

I now can manually select which waypoints I want to show or load all using geocaching tools, but I would appreciate if that could be automatic to save few clicks (and I`m constantly forgetting to do so :))

Of course configurable, to not force users to use this feature, if they doesn`t want to.

Now Locus shows waypoints for all visible cache. But this function shows only selected cache? Understand? So YES :)

Hi Guys,

not sure I understand this idea ... may you explain it a little bit?

Anyway I just after some fight, created "Remembering of loaded GC waypoints", so since next version, Locus will restore already loaded geocache waypoints during start. This will probably cover this idea right?

I try to explain: I would appreciate the following feature:

If I select a geocache with aditional waypoints, the aditional waypoints of this geocache are automatically shown until I say "hide them" (or hide all temporary items).

Let`s call it "autoload aditional waypoints" ;-)

understand

implemented ;)

EDIT: this feature is optional so you have to enable it in geocaching settings

I really like this feature but it does not work all the time. I load a new pocket query and everything works fine, a few days later the finals are not shown any more. If I do an update for all the caches nothing changes as well.

Is there a global setting to make same appear again? It is not very handy to turn it on within every cache by hand.

Hello,

do you have enabled this feature in settings > geoaching > **Automatic waypoint loading**?

http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:settings:geocaching#global

This feature change a little few versions ago, so it's need to set it again.

I'm currently not aware that there are any problems with it, but it's possible. Suggest to check, which waypoints are missing, for which cache. Because to fix this issue, I really need to simulate same problem on my device. And because I have no such experience (I use this feature also), I need step-by-step desription.

Thank you!

Hi,

thanks for your replay.

OK, I managed to reproduce this behaviour:

I have a folder "Mysterys". I imported my pocket query to this folder and made an update on the details to get my final waypoints from the note field. The Finals have been marked for display. A few days later they were not shown any more. (I played around a lot ;-) ). So I put them on for display manually.

Now I created another folder "1 Test", imported the same Pocket Query, made an update. The finals are on display as well for both caches (the ones in "1 Test" and in "Mysterys").

Now: I delete the caches and the folder "1 Test". The finals are not shown any more. Although they are still in the folder "Mysterys".

So is there a single setting per cache per folder or is there just a global setting for every cache even if it exists in more than one folder? That would at least be an explanation.

OK, thats how to lose the finals.

But even worse: Now I do an update on the "Mystery" folder and the finals still will not be on display. So somehow this "do not show the waypoints"-setting persists. I even deleted the caches from the folder (and the folder), reimported the pocket query and made an update, still no finals on display.

I hope this helps to reproduce this problem. Well actually two problems:

1. Delete any copy of a cache loses the display-waypoint setting for all other copys.

2. This persists even if I delete the last copy.

Thanks

Hello, thanks for explanation and testing.

This is little bit more complicated. Every waypoint of any cache you load on map, is independent on parent cache. It's just point which has unique generated ID. And this ID is created fromcache ID, waypoint ID (code) and it's coordinates.

So if you display two exactly same waypoints from two same caches, these waypoints has same ID's. So when you remove one cache, it's waypoints (by ID) are also removed.

I may confirm that system in Locus is not best in this way and it may cause troubles. Anyway question is, if this is really a problem. Is there any reason for you, to have visible two same caches in different folders?

And one tip - if you need to load all waypoints for all visible caches, you may use this function http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:functions:geocaching_tools#load_all_waypoints in Geocaching Tools menu.

Hi,

OK, so I understand that it is best to use only one folder for caches. I am not yet sure about the right[tm] way to use folders, pocket queries and live downloads. I thought about using an extra folder for my solved mysteries. But that does not work out if I use the live download feature of the geocaching addon. And I do not want to keep to many caches in the database. I will have to find a way. What is the best way to keep the number of caches low in this one folder?

So if you decide not to fix this its fine with me.

The "load all waypoints"-feature looks very nice for my needs, but where to I turn it off again?. The link (Remove temp map items function.) does not show me any way to do so. And if I turn it off, will it still show the ones it is supposed to show all the time (like finals)?

Thanks
