Overwriting existing Caches on map not working

When downloading Caches that I have already downloaded, the listing is not updated. In particular logs are not updated and the icon (i.e. found or not) is not updated, even if I select overwrite.

Good day Sigrun,

may you please provide us exacts steps since first import of cache, that allows simulate your problem? We need to simulate exactly same issue on own device to be able to fix it. Thank you.

Hello Menion,

this is what I did:

  1. First imported the caches in February,
  2. solved them and added final waypoints (by the way, is there a way to export the final coordinates back to geocaching.com or GSAK?) - I did NOT log them using Locus
  3. Logged the found caches online
  4. two months later I want to update the caches in Locus to reflect the ones I found
  5. Moved Locus to the position on the map where the caches are located.
  6. clicked on the menu, selected "Weitere Funktionen" (additional functions), then clicked on "Caches in der Umgebung" (caches in the vicinity), set the number of caches to be downloaded, clicked on the download arrow.
  7. I left the next dialog with default values and clicked on "IMPORTIEREN" (Import).
  8. In the dialog that now asks me if I want to overwrite the cache I clicked on apply to all and selected overwrite.
  9. Checked the caches, but neither the logs were updated nor the icon reflecting that I found the cache.

I did this at least three times, but no luck. Opening an individual cache and refreshing it did what I expected, it downloaded more recent logs and updated the icon.

Good day Sigrum,

before I dig into this problem deeper, tell me please also if your are a basic or premium geocaching member?

Because there are some new quite negative news around options that basic members have now. More about this is here http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/is-the-new-geocaching-listing-desing-because-of-changes-from-groundspeak#comment-27066 or here help.locusmap.eu/topic/trackables-of-an-geocache-are-only-visible-after-refreshing-an-goecache-basic-membership (mainly answers from Arcao, G4l add-on developer). They may be connected to your problem.

Hi Menion,

I am a premium Geocaching member. But currently I think you don't have to bother with the problem any longer. I restarted my phone this morning, tried the import for the 4th time and then the caches were updated. So I cannot say what was going wrong anymore. I cannot reproduce the issue, so it is not worth you wasting your time on it.

Thanks for your quick responses!

Just one other question: is there a way to save the final coordinates of a multi or mystery I solved with locus on the geocaching page? Or at least a way to export the solution to GSAK?

Hi Sigrun

only solution i know,

copy your final coords, paste them to "Note" and uplods it to your GC account.

With GSAK i´m not familiar....

Hello guys, from time to time happen, that such "weird" problem disappear and is no longer able to reproduce. Unfortunately it usually means that such problem is still there, just needs some special conditions = almost impossible to solve without knowing of these conditions. So when this happen again and you find our some reason for this, feel free to write me here, thanks.

And yes, balloni's option is probably only possible a s I know. I also do not work with GSAK, but if I remember, add-on currently only read data from database, but it's is not anymore possible to write there. Not sure if it's developer work on this add-on, but it looks like he's not anymore.

Thanks for your answers.

If I come across the issue again, I'll try to get more information on it.

On the other question: So if I get you right, Groundspeak does not offer an interface to update the final coordinates of a cache, like it is possible on the website?

Yes correct. No such feature is possible over Groundspeak API for now.

That is too bad. But I have an idea, that would make life easier in such cases:

as an optional feature final coordinates added to a cache could automatically be copied to the "Note" and thus uploaded to the geocaching website, saving the user from having to do this manually on a mobile device where this is always painful. I used to use an application that interpreted the first coordinate in the notes as the caches final location, which was very handy, since this was synchronized back to the geocaching website and the calculation performed on the mobile device wasn't lost, even in the event of the mobile device having to be reset or lost or whatever else can happen on a mobile device.

What do you think?

Interesting idea that should be added better here http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/sync-local-computed-coordinates-to-geocachingcom-profile , to existing topic about this problematic.

just added it. Would be awesome if it were implemented. I really miss this feature in Locus. Otherwise it is much more powerful than the simple app I used to use.
