Position Report Feature (enhancement to LT)

I'd like to see an alternative to the "Live Tracking" feature where you can press a button to generate a one time position report instead of having to turn on live tracking. This would be used when setting up camp at night or just stopping somewhere and you want to report your position. It would also be nice that when the Position Report button is pushed it presents a 'text' option that would be included with the report where you could put "camping for the night" or "stopping for lunch".. whatever. This would function much like FindMeSpot device. This feature would be useful where you don't always have an internet connection and don't want to leave your device on all day draining the battery.

In Summary:

-- Create a new "Position Report" icon/button.

-- PR icon will use same settings as live tracking but only reports position once.

-- Have a popup text box option to include sending of short text with report.

Thanks!

Matthew

Hello Matthew,

interesting idea. I think here one major problem. As well as Live Tracking, also this solution requires own server solution (or some service that should be used by Locus Live tracking). Which is think is biggest negative.

Did you tried Menu > More > Share > Share map center?

Because this very simple function may be used for purpose you want - like to notify someone about your current camping possition for example over SMS.

Menion,

The Map Share actually does work for my purposes! I would like to see an enhancement to the position to be a URL to a maps site (Google, etc) instead of just coordinates but I'll just use the image of screen option instead.

Thanks!

PS - You can scratch the enhancement request if you like unless you think it is still a good enhancement.

Hello,

so if I understand correctly, you wants to share URL, right?

Try this:

- menu > more > share > share map center

- in section "Plain text", tap on black small button on right side of edit field to delete it's whole content

- tap on "+" button and choose "Geohash URL" and now tap "Share"

Better?

Sweet! That will work.

You might check the URL that you use for Google Maps, it doesn't seem to work. Format may have changed?

Weird, are you sure?

You should get something like this

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Point@50.16865,14.64734

And it seems to be valid URL address. How looks address you share and that do not work?

In my stock browser google maps change the url from

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Point@.....

to

https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Point%40.....

anyway - it works..
