Screen off if idle not working

Dzung shared this problem 9 years ago
Not a Problem

The setting seems to do nothing for me. The screen only works by the system time out. I'm on a Xperia Z3 Compact 4.4.4

Same problem.

Android 4.2.2 , Locus pro 3.7

"Display->screen on\off control -> turn off if idle for " is set to 30 sec

System timeout is set to 30 sec too

But screen goes off for about 10 sec (plus time to catch GPS if GPS was off)

Hello Tim,

The feature "turn off if idle for " works only together with navigation or guiding. Let's say that you start navigation and set "Turn on display for navigation orders" If you set "Turn off if idle for 30sec" then Locus turn off display 30sec after last navigation order. I have to also notice that system settings has higher priority.

Would you please check that Locus work in this way? For example set system settings to 2 minutes. Start guiding and check if Locus turn off display after 30 sec.

Thanks

Petr

Ok, have tested this in guiding mode.

System setting is 2 minutes.

Locus setting is 30 sec.

But locus turn screen off in ~10 sec after point notification or after pressing power button to get look on the screen.

@Tim.

I remember I too, had a stability problem +/- as you describe here. Timeout was very irregular. Not sure about what was the precise cause anymore as already some time ago. But this unstability disappeared after a "config.cfg" file edit, disabling gesture control auto screen off. Close Locus, and in android general setting see device administrators: Locus Pro enabled, eventually remove permission as Locus will ask for new permission after new start.

Edit Locus config.cfg, save file, have a phone cold restart and start Locus.

In config.cfg see line:

# Disable "Turn off if idle" when screen was turn on bygesture (default: false)

turn_on_screen_by_gesture_disable_auto_screen_off=1

My Locus set-up:

Locus as service/Control on_off screen: enable/Always screen on:Always/Disable lock screen:enable.

In Control on/off screen: enable=On.

Control by Gesture: Wave once.

Guiding/Navigation: enable (3x)

Turn off if idle: 15 sec.

Great Thanks! Seemed to get worked!

not sure, but think it's option "Always screen on:Always" . It was disabled before

Hi, fine and functional now.

This item setting naming, "Always screen on" is indeed not optimal and confusing.

Manual: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:settings:global

hmm now I'm not sure what change caused, that now it works as expected. Change in config.cfg file?

I think it is by the function "Always screen on" (or always or specify) that does the job.

Function "Control on/off screen" is combined with that function named "Always screen on" I think.

But you are better placed to confirm this ;-). Optimalisation of name "always screen on" function should be less confusing. Someone a good suggestion ? "Backlight control" ?

Complete menu (naming) is not updated" to the latest Locus version functions.

(remains = not correct expression in actual Locus versions).

When gps on, when guiding/Navigation, or always: Locus regulates backlight ?

Default start up is: System settings – system setting regulates backlight

From "old" manual:

  • System settings – system setting regulates backlight
  • Only when GPS ON – backlight remains switched on whilst GPS is turned on.
  • Only when guiding – the screen remains lit up only when guiding/navigation feature is running
  • Always screen on – backlight remains turned on at all times

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried the instructions above but still have the same issue. It seems off if idle is ignored and system settings function normally.

edit: actually after a restart 0709's instructions worked.

though screen always on setting doesn't need to be activated for me. Hence I think it was the config.cfg edit that fixed the problem.
