Show course/bearing next to line of direction (optional)

Hello,

when you use the waypoint navigation you can select values which are shown under and above the line between your position and the waypoint (target).

I would like to have that option as well for the line showing the direction you're moving to. Or a simple field, maybe at the top of the map, showing your actual bearing, even when your moving without having a waypoint selected.

Why?

We often get roadbooks for our tours, where need to follow a course (for example 223º). Waypoints are not available, we must follow the course and the map.

While the compass view is ok, I need to look at the map while moving in 223º. As far as I know that is not possible today, is it?

Good day Andreas,

thanks for an idea and a description "why and how" to use it. I may anyway recommend different function for this case which may be a lot more useful. It's in Geocaching Tools > Projection, here define distance (longer then expected) and known bearing/azimuth. And Locus Map then draw a line on the map! So you may clearly see where you should go without any worry from going a while in different direction due to some obstacle etc.

Usable?

Hmmm....in general, yes. But not for my purpose.

When I use the projection it shows me the dottet line with the direction and the distance. But the course is in the opposite direction. For example, when I enter 10000 meters, bearing 180º the line goes up to the top of the map (North, 0º). It seems that the bearing shown is the one from the projected point back to my position.

To give you a better picture:

At a certain point of the roadbook we're at a crossing. The next orderis "Move in 223º". The navigator checks if there is a track or something and the driver starts in that direction until both reach the next order in the roadbook. While driving and following the track the direction both are driving to will change permanently, so only at the beginning the 223º were relevant.

The navigator checks the next order. Let's say it shows a crossing with 5 directions and they must follow 270º.

That's where I need to see the map and the direction where we're driving, so I can tell the driver which turn to take to follow 270º . All that must be done while driving (maybe at high speed), so time matters.

Setting a new projection would mean to stop an the crossing. Set the new direction and continue.

What I simply need is that the course of the direction I move to is shown, optional or permanently while the map is active. I could use the compass, but I need the map, as well. My idea was to have that under or above the line which shows your direction already. Like it can be done with the line which is shown when you drive to a selected waypoint.

Another way to achieve this, and while I think about that, I like that idea much more than my first one, is to show (as an option) a fixed compass rose (as some kind of overlay) on the display. The line of direction would cross it and show the direction of driving. The new course can easily be found, without calculation.

See attached file.

Good day Andreas,

thanks for explanation. Are you sure that projected line is in opposite direction? Should not be.

Anyway in this case, if readable value ( and not directly compass over map) is enough for you, then you should definitely try "Dashboard". It should offer what you need. With "Dashboard editor" you should be able to create exactly what you need.

Ok, I'll try.

Regarding the projection. I attached a screenshot. I entered 10000 meters and 0°.

Ah my bad, sorry!! "Projection" only project new point on map, so what you see is correct. It created point you see on a center of map from your previous location and entered values, sorry. To draw such line is needed to use from same menu function "Draw lines".

Anyway as I wrote, dashboard is a way or as balloni55 bellow mentioned, older system "Custom screens".

Hey guys,

that trick did it. Great, great!

Dashboard editor or the balloning theme works well.

Thank you very much.

Solved.
