Sound reminder about unclosed Locus

Dmitry Lesev shared this idea 6 years ago

For preventing disharging battery in case if user forgot to close the Locus app after using, i suggest to add a sound reminder to the settings.

It can be activated for 2 cases (or one of them):

- Locus hasn't been opened for the last nnn minutes

- GPS position hasn't been changed (+-) for the last nnn minutes

Good day Dmitry,

Firstly there is need to say, that Android platform do not know term like "closed application". Once you start any application, it should live as long as you use it or as Android system this, it may be useful in future. If application is not currently used and stay in memory in background and consume battery!, then it's problem in app itself that should be fixed.

Fact, that Locus offer "close" by double back press is small hack that is not officially supported by Android system.

Simply ... Locus that live in background should in ideal case, consume 0% of battery. It is possible that there is a light consumption in case of enabled "Periodic updates", but it should be really really close to 0. Because of this, I see no reason why to implement this idea.

Or if you have different experience with Locus Map on background, please share it. Thanks

Good day Menion,

I tried an experiment: started the Locus and started the track recording. Then i opened another app. When i returned (in several minutes) back to the Locus, i found that the track was in process (i saw some new track points). Does it mean that GPS receiver was active?

Good day,

this is of course different case. Here you had enabled some active feature of Locus app so yes, in this case GPS was active and Locus Map drain your battery because if was permanently recorded a track for a whole time.

I though that we talk here about situation, when you save your recordings, stop navigation etc. so nothing in Locus Map currently runs and you still wants to remind that you should close it. So I understand it incorrectly?

If so, then I do not understand. You wrote "user forgot to close the Locus app after using" .. what does it mean?

I meant that user simple forgot to stop the track recording and to close app after route. I.e. Locus continues to write the track and as result GPS receiver is still active

Hmm but how then Locus Map should know that this moment is not intent, then you just simply don't have a break for a while? Or because of inaccuracy of GPS, how to know if you even stop on same place for a longer time? I see no simply solution for this.

I may suggest for example enable "Audio coach" system for your track recording that may for example every 15 minutes tell loudly current time and for example recorded distance. So you every 15 minute gets "reminder" that track recording is running.

I would set "Locus hasn't been opened for the last nnn minutes " = 1 hour. If i haven't opened Locus for the last hour, he will remind me. And my reaction on it can be different: just ignore it (because it's planned stop) or close app (usualy 2nd variant)

"Audio coach" - i don't use it (don't like when the phone speat to me :)) I'd like to get alerts only if i forgot about Locus, i.e. havent opened it for nn minutes

Good day Dmitry,

understand, thanks for explanation.

- for "Locus hasn't been opened for the last nnn minute" ... best to use "Audio coach" as it may partially cover this need

- for "GPS position hasn't been changed (+-) for the last nnn minutes" ... for this already exists menu >settings > GPS & location > Position lost settings.

I'm sorry, but I do not consider this as useful settings. Thanks for understanding.

I've tried both variants, unfortunally non of them can be used as reliable reminder:

"Audio coach" - because it doesn't work when a track recording is off

"GPS position lost" - because modern phones have very sensitive gps modules, so they can receive gps even inside building, after tracking

Oki, understand.

They it mainly depend on how many people will be interested in this feature ( votes & comments ).
