Good day,

may you please write me more about your device? Mainly type and version of Android?

Unfortunately without any crash that should happen in case of serious problem, it is really complicated to find out real reason. There may be a lot of them.

Usually it is caused by lack of memory where system decide to terminate un-needed applications. It mainly happen on devices with Android 4.1, 4.2.

It may be also caused by some aggressive applications like some memory optimizers. Do you use any of them?

In worst case, it is possible to create a log by this method: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:how_to_create_debug_log , right after you notice that Locus is not working anymore. There is not 100% guarantee that there will be useful information, but it worth a try.

Thank you and sorry for a complications.

Hello,

I had again the same problem, see attached file.

I can star a track but after a while it seems the tracking is not working properly. I need to restart locus, because the icon on top, or the information bar that there is a tracing, is disappeared...

While starting again the system says there is a running track, but not correct.

I cannot make a log file, as I cannot start “Take Bug Report” (it's gray)

I could reinstall locus, but I have so many settings done and so many tracks...

Thanks for helping me

Good day thijs,

thank you for a screenshots. Seems that your device is powerful enough, to withstand Locus in all cases. In this case, I'm unable to to anything without a log, unfortunately. May you try in same developers menu, "enable USB debugging"? This option is for unknown reason sometimes needs to take a bug report.

Also aren't you using any custom special ROM or some custom settings? Because I never hear during last months that Locus do such problems to any user.

About re-install: if you wanna try it, best is to make a backup of settings with menu > functions > backup manager. If you have Locus in private directory on internal memory/card ( in directory Android/data/menion.android.locus ), be careful as you need to manually backup all data - they will be removed automatically by system when you remove Locus. Otherwise backup of settings is enough.

Sorry for a complications. Hope we find any solution.

Hello,

My problem is still not solve... At once my tracking stops, te little tracking sign is stopping and I need to restart my locus.

Then I get a message that there is a tracking running, but he is making a, straight line from the last point...

Could it be a problem with my gps settings?

If no solution I will reinstall locus, how about my old trackings

Thanks for a quick reply...

Good day,

information that you get a message, that "there is an unfinished running tracking", after you tap again on Locus icon, is very important. It means, that your system for any reason, decided to terminate running application. It has nothing to do with any settings in Locus itself.

Aren't you using as aggressive application like some "memory optimizers", or some app that may terminate other applications? Btw. what device and what Android version are you using?

My device is a Samsung s5

See attachments.

I use clean master and an energy saver,  but since quite a time,  but maybe I changed some settings...  I will check this.

Meanwhile I installed the free version of locus and will test if I have the same problem..

Thanks for you reaction

Locus Map Free and Pro share same code, so they should work identically.

Anyway highly recommend to temporary disable "clean master" and try it again. If problem remain, try same (disable) with second "energy saver". I'm almost sure that one of them will be killing other applications on background when they consider, that app is not needed.

Ok I will do this and see what's happening..

See als attached,  maybe this can be the reason

Yep, it may be. My personal opinion is, that no app that tries to optimize something on Android, should be used really carefully.

photo

Strange because I use this app since a long time and I only have the locus problem since a short time...

Anyway I will remove them as test..

I will come back on it later

Dear,

Today I did following test

1/ removed all battery savers and other save and optimise apps

2/ I started 2 times locus and a track, after a short time locus stopped like I already had..

3/ I installed locus free and started a track, I kept it open the hole day (inside, outside, car etc) without any problem...

I think I must reinstall locus Pro, or go back to the factory settings?

How to do with my current tracks.

Good day Thijs,

thank you for a testing and new information. This is really interesting. I can't imagine, to be true I'm almost 100% sure, that this cannot be because of something in Locus. Both version share same source code and there is no settings that should have influence on how Locus withstand attempts of system to kill it.

Also my wife use SGS5 with official rom and I never heard about such problems. I have to check here device if there isn't any special power battery saving mode directly in Android settings.

Good evening,

I'm checking wife's phone and only settings I found is some battery optimization directly under device setting >battery. There is possibility to disable this optimization for certain applications. There is no more settings that should affect this problem ... at least as I was able to find.

I also can't imagine why factory reset should help here. Also it's so much work, that I never recommend it. Reinstall of Locus is a different story. Simply do backup of settings (in menu > backup manager) and over Google Play re-install Locus ( only in case you do not have Locus in private directory on sdcard/Android/data/ ... ). Then restore backup. Anyway I also can't imagine why this should help, sorry.

Only what we may try, is to create a log right after you notice that Locus disappear. How to do log is wrote here. Anyway I really cannot promise that in log will be something that help here.

thanks for your help, I appreciate this very much.

During the weekend we had to tracks in the free version, no problem at all .

In the settings / battery there is a setting 'optimalistion' this was open for locus, now I stopped it ..

Tomorrow I will test more and let you know the result

I have found the reason of the "stops", it's a problem like you said with a battery control but not from an app but from the phone settings.

In the menu, settings, general, optimising.... Locus was set as optimize... I disabled this for locus and my track worked the whole day..

... I am happy...

Thanks for your help, hope this can help for other users having the same problem....

(see attachment)

One extra question. On the free version I see a green tab(rec with red bol) on the left.

How can I get this, I cannot find this in the settings.

Thanks

Settings -> Track recording ->Global ->Style of track recording panel -> Choose "side panel".

thanks for your reply

I have the impression you are not happy with my solution, maybe you suggested me in the start to look at this settings?

If I misunderstood sorry for that ...

I mean the small tab, REC, this is not appearing even when I follow your instruction

but not a big problem ..

in every case thanks for your help

[NL] Ik denk Vlaams ?

Gelukt ?

Hello thijs,

I'm really glad you found a real reason why app stops itself. I'll forward this information to Michal, who create a manual from Locus, so it will be definitely important information for him and usable for other users.

About side button - suggestion of 0709 was correct. This settings in Locus track recording settings is a key to make this button on the screen. Anyway there exists also a second condition - there should not be any permanently visible track recording button in functions panels. So in your case it means that you have probably "Track record" button in right or top functions panel and these panels are permanently visible.

Cannot say I fully agree with this hidden condition now :), but it's how I made it a long time ago ...

Hi Menion ! Thanks for that info...even that was unknown behaviour for me...just tested, yes correct indeed.

All my panels are set to disappear after 7 sec. :-)

thanks for your comments

I cannot find this second condition, please give me the path I need to follow

thanks

http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:maps_settings:panels

Top panel hiding - Bottom panel hiding - Function Panel Visibility: Hide if inactive. Panel Hiding Timeout set: x sec. You are free tho set panel hiding or not

Thijs, or in your Top panel or in Side panel is a record button.

That's the panel you must hide. A screen double tap brings a hidden panel back.

photo

@ Menion.

In Locus 3.17.2.1 record side button always visible (if set), or in next version independent of panel(s) visibility ?

photo

Good day Willy,

this is correct observation. This "hidden" settings caused a more troubles then usage. It wasn't quite clear why it works as it works, so I've decided to remove this secret feature. Now, side button visibility is only defined by settings in track record settings. Believe it won't be a big problem.

Hi, i see you give a comment now when starting to disable the battery savings. That correct but you only need to do this for locus, other app you can leave on saving mode...

Thanks to add the tracking tab on the left side again...
