What is the "left panel" that menion mentioned in the news for v2.9.0 (http://www.locusmap.eu/news-in-versio...) and how can I bring it up? I would like to have a left penel in horizontal layout, as right panel is cut at the end.

I think the left pannel, that Menion mentions is the new Menu layout, when you hit the three vertical dots, new menu comes up.

It would have been a good idea to set a left panel with similar settings as in the right panel.

Yes, Patrik is right. By this I just meant new menu layout, so sliding panel from left side. I just tried to insert into it also list of functions and I think it looks really good and is faster then previous solution as separate dialog. So I`m playing with idea to put some functions directly here ... we`ll see :). Anyway hope you like it and you`ll find this menu nice, modern and mainly useful

it would be great and consistent (and also user friendly) if all the menus (and submenus) will be part of this...you know...the same as it is for "Functions" currently. Anyway, this was a great step forward...toward more user friendly GUI. fingers crossed :)

I`m now also thinking in this way ;)

Ah, "left menu" refers to the new main menu, thanks for the answer :)

Menion, I like the new menu, it feels more modern and nicer than before. Nevertheless, at the current state of development, it is less usable for me, because it does not behave good on horizontal layout which I use often due to the hardware keyboard my Sony Xeperia Pro has. For instance, it does not rotate (the other menus do rotate), so I have to read 90° rotated text, and it does use fixed width, so it does not make use of the huge available width. I guess these things are simple to code and will vanish over time :)

hmm what you mean it "does not rotate"? I do not have device with hardware keyboard, but on other devices (without keyboard) menu normally rotate as well as a screen. Are you able to do a screenshot so I can imagine it?

main advantage is, that you may use top left button to open and immediately has all required buttons below finger. Also list of functions appear faster etc ...

My devices rotates the screen as the level sensor tells it to do - the keyboard does not trigger screen rotation, it just motivates me to use horizontal layout more often ;-)

As of v2.9.2 no action is required :) but only if you change the other menus to the new layouting, the usability in landscape mode would decrease.

Compared to older versions, the impact of main menu > settings > global > orientation lock changed: Setting it to "system settings" means the map as well as the new main menu rotate (as before and is fine). Setting it to "map screen" + "portrait mode" means the map as well as the new main menu (that`s new) do not rotate - that`s OK, as the main menu does not require any text input, but if the other menus (settings, tracks, maps etc.) would also stop to rotate, usability would decrease: Device is landscape, keyboard also, but entered text is portrait.
