Which algorithm that the Vector Map Altitude Values is based on?

Hi Admin and All,

Good day!

I'm just curious to what algorithm that the vector map is based on? Geoid or Ellipsoid?

Other related inquiry:

Filled altitude values is based on Global Geoid model when automatic correction is selected in Altitude manager?

I'm using Locus map since then in documenting uncharted places in my country. And I'm giving copies of recorded maps and POIs to local people in the area for their reference and tourism purposes. So, I'd like to understand the complexities. And if you have recommended articles to read, I would be really thankful.

Good day Rogemar,

elevation values received by GPS units are based on heights related to ellipsoid. For this, Locus Map offer "offset" in elevation manager, that allows to automatically convert these "useless" ellipsoid heights to geoid.

On second side, values in HGT files are already related to geoid, so there is no need to convert them and may be used directly.

So best is to check if you have in elevation manager enabled automatic offset. Then values from GPS or filled offline from HGT files, both should be correctly related to geoid!

Feel free to ask if something is not clear.
