Hi Carsten,

it seems OS kills Locus or GPS when your phone is in standby - most often it's caused by battery optimization. Exclude Locus from its activity or switch it off in your system settings.

Hi Michal,

I already tried to exclude locus from power management but same effect. I think it could be the gps system itself wich will be deactivated. How can I help to solve the problem?

Carsten, have you tried also switching the power management completely off? Or exclude GPS unit from battery optimization?

Hi Michal,

No I didn't switch off power management because of high battery drain. How can I exclude GPS unit only frim power management?

Hi Carsten,

some devices enable excluding GPS unit, I'm not sure if yours is the case... Switching power management off for test reasons, of course.

Hi Michal,

I'll test it today or tomorrow and let you know the result. But to disable the power management is not the best option.

Good morning Michal,

As promised I tried the following:

Power management level medium with and without exclusion of locus: no gps signal no track recording

Power management OFF: track recording works fine, but reduces the lifetime roundabout 30%

I didn't find a seperate setting for gps system to exclude from power management.

I hope you will find a solution to activate gps by locus when the phone is under power management control.

I'm looking forward continuoing your excellent support.

Hi Carsten,

by the exclusion of Locus you mean putting it in the "unmonitored apps list"? We'll test your settings and try to find solution.

Hi Michal,

Yes that's what I did. Great, many thanks for your pleasant support. Please let me know whether you need further information.

Carsten, how is it with other apps that run in the background and need GPS? E.g. sporttrackers. Do you use any? What is your experience with them?

Hi,

Not tested yet. Locus is my one and only favorite outdoor app.

Hi Carsten, we tested Samsung Power saving mode medium on the same OS with other GPS-dependent applications and we have bad news - this level of battery optimization switches GPS off independently on GPS-driven app running in the background. So if you want to record tracks, you have to switch the power saving mode off. Samsung is not the only one as you can see here: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:gps_lost_fix_android6. We'll keep exploring if these systems could be worked around somehow but so far we can't do anything about it.

Good morning Michal,

Thank you very much for your excellent support and continouing investigaten despite bad news.

I'm hopeful that we will have a solution sooner or later by locus, 3rd party app or samsung/android.

If you need some more information please let me know.

Hi Carsten,

after more testing we can just confirm that the Samsung Power saving mode "medium" switches GPS off when the phone is in standby. Here's a short video showing how to prevent this: https://nas.asamm.com:443/share.cgi?ssid=02sPjrf

Hi Michal,

many thanks for updating. I tried to follow your explanation, but unfortunately no success because of different app icons installed. I've no Locus free icon which can be deactivated and if I deactivate the normal icon it will not be shown in exception list.

Please have a look also to attached screenshot.

Maybe I've done something wrong?

Hi Carsten,

the video shows Locus Map Free but there is no difference from deactivating Locus Map Pro which you have.

Hi Michal,

I tested your suggestion but unfortunately on my SGS6 it doesn't work.

If I switch power optimization off in that way you suggested, it has the same result as using the normal way by excluding the app from power control.

Maybe GPS system on SGS6 is different to A5 or Locus free is different to Locus premium (I don't believe).

Sorry for that bad news. Hopefully you have another idea?

Hi Carsten,

we tested it on the same phone and the same OS - exclusion won't help. Turning Power saving mode off is the only solution.

It's a pity, maybe there is an operatingsystem subsystem which has also be excluded?

I tried that but it also didn't help
