Zero Length HGT Files

Steven Hawkins shared this problem 8 years ago
Solved

I recently purchased and downloaded a number of maps from your store but seem to have some issues with corrupt files. A fair number of the HGT Zip packages download as zero length, so presumably I am missing shading detail for the affected areas. How can I resolve this ? I can send you a list of the empty zips if that helps. I would like to get the missing HGT files.

Thanks

Steven

Good day Steven,

for ocean areas, there are no altitude data so Locus store them as empty files. Anyway please send me coordinates or name of single file that cause you troubles and I will check it.

Hi Menio

Thanks for getting back on this. Makes sense about the water thing ! The zero length (EMPTY) files are :

N33E034

N35E013

N36E013

N38E007

Also, the installation of map store downloads is broken when the files are saved into subdirectories. If I purchased and downloaded a Canadian province the folder tree looks like /Americas/INVALID/Canada/Ontario.xxx. Same thing happens with Europe UK and the US state files. An INVALID folder is always created. I basically move the downloaded maps into my own structure after download and then erase the bad paths from the installation.

FYI I also experience the error message that was recently reported where the default directories mapping to SDCARD1 is damaged by a hardware reset. The workaround to re-select the folders works fine but is obviously a nuisance. I run a Moto G LTE with Lollipop 5.1. I know you are aware and are fixing it for the next release, but just wanted you to know it is not an isolated issue.

Thanks for all your help.

Steven

Good day Steven,

I'm testing problematic HGT files. What I see is that Locus downloads zip file with 0 size, then create a new file called *.empty and then forget to delete downloaded empty file, right? This issue will be fixed in next version, thanks for report!

Problem with downloading maps and "invalid" folder - I'm unable to simulate this problem, but I already did some fixes in current version and handling of custom directories on SD card, so I hope this problem will be also solved in next Locus version.

Hi Menio

Yes, exactly right ! Can you confirm that the zero length files are over water as I want to make sure I am not missing anything. I assume also that I can simply dump the ‘empty’ zip files ?

Hope the next build fixes the ‘invalid’ issue. Has not been a show stopper as I move files into my own folder structure anyway.

Any idea when this next build will get released ? The lost directory settings on a reboot is the bigger concern as I travel internationally a lot and often have to shut down and reboot.

I must say that have been enjoying Locus a LOT, so thank you for that. I do wish there was a PDF manual as having to have a get a connection to read the docs is impossible in a lot of places I find myself. Canada is a huge country with a lot of dark corners !!

Cheers

Steven

I've tested first three files in your list and they all are just an water area. So "empty" files are correct.

But do not delete *.empty files, but delete empty zip files. '*.empty' files are created manually by Locus just to prevent downloading empty zip files again and again.

New version ... hope that till middle of September.

PDF manual ... we are just finishing our online manual and I really hope, there will be an usable method, how to convert whole web into simple and single PDF document. We will see ;).
