Locus no more collects heart beat rate from Android Watch

Hi there,

I've really enthusiast when Locus team has annouced several months ago the support of Android Watch, include heart beat monitoring.

I'm using a TicWatch android watch and this has has been running like a charm during months.

Since few weeks, menu in Locus has changed concerning BT configuration and when I activate BT HR sensor Locus does not detect any more my Watch as a HR sensor.

On top of that Locus does not display anymore the map on the watch and the recording fails during sport fails systematically after few minutes.

The strange thing is that I can still start the recording from my watch, so I guess the connection with my phone is alive, but there is some issues after that.

This is very frustrating situation, because it was working fine during months.

Your help will be appreciated. I'm open to perform additional tests with you if needed.

Hello,

could you please specify which model of TicWatch are you using specificaly ? Are you sure you have the model with Wear OS? Because none of Wear OS watches should be detectable through Locus BT manager, that has never worked, at least to my knowing.

If you are using Wear for Locus Map add-on for Wear OS on the watch, then you should activate the HR measurement through the Settings on the main menu screen (i.e. navigation drawer), though the connection was sometimes quite problematic for some users - we have not managed to fix that yet.

The add-on was not updated for a couple of months, but Locus Map has, so I could retest if anything has changed that we have not anticipated. By the way what kind of mobile phone and which Android version are you using with your watch? Maybe check if some system battery optimizations are not enabled for Locus Map or Wear for Locus Map applications that could be killing the connection.

Hello,

I do confirm this is an Android and that he wa able to record the HR untul end of November at least (I still have the records in my app, with the graphs).

My TicWatch is actually running AndroidWear; it is a TicWatch S V667, running Wear OS 2.2 (android 8.0.0). I'm using a Samsung mobile A5 (last update on Android 8). Battery optimizations are disabled for Locus and WearOS App on my mobile and I'm running the Locus add-on for Wear OS.

I also emphasize that since December I've noticed persistant unstability, with crashed during records.

Best regards

Hello Vincent,

ok, thank you for the report! Maybe there is some hidden problem in the recent versions of Locus Map, I will check it out after the New Year with my Huawei Watch 2.

Also if you notice a crash (on the phone?) during a track recording it would really help me if you could create and send a bug report to me which can be obtained like this: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:how_to_create_debug_log

Anyway, sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime

Best Regards,

Milan

Hello,

it seems there were some updates on Locus these days....

I've activated the debug log this morning as expressed below, but finally....

No crash during the recording...

And more over, the HR recording feature is back!!

So I do confirm HR is recorded with my TicWatch by Locus Map, and this without enabling any sensor in the configuration window: I guess the HR recording failed (and generated some crashes?) because I've tried to enable the HR BT 4.0 sensor in the options.

Please ensure with your developers the HR feature is maintained in the APP; this is for that reason I granted you 5 stars!

Kind regards

Vincent

Hello Vincent,

thank you for the info, I am glad that it is working again. There could theoretically be a collision with the watch add-on and the BT manager, but the watch should take priority in such case. But definitely something to look out for, will check it out once I am working on the add-on again. I really appreciate you letting know there might be an issue with this!

Best Regards
