Wear Os start recording connection problem

Hi everyone,

I’ve noticed problems when starting a track record from the wear os companion app.

Sometimes it works (rarely) but most of the time when I try to start a recording from the watch app, I get a "not connected error" (See file attached for screenshot).

However, if I launch it from the Android App, the watch app does connect properly and shows the tracking.

I tried :

- turning off/on airplane mode on both the phone and the watch, it doesn’t fix the issues.

- reboot the watch : doesn’t fix the issue.

- reboot the phone : doesn’t fix the issue.

Using Samsung Galaxy S8+ and Fossil Sport watch with Wear Os 2.1

Could this be a bug ?

Thanks in advance

Ryan

Hello,

thank you for reporting this issue. The connection logic of the wear add-on is a little bit dated now and not ideal and I plan to improve it later. The described behaviour might be a combinanion of our communication implementation, Locus Map start up time and general communication issues and higher than usual latency in your case for some reason.

I can not offer you any assistence at the moment, this behavior is a bit unusual but I will look into it in the future if mainly the start-up latency could be improved.

Best regards

Hi Milan, thx for the reply and clear info.

I do a bit of Android dev in my daily job (I mostly program drones, with a french startup company, but we've done some Android apps to control them).

If I can be of any help with improving the startup connexion logic, I'd be glad to look into this problem !

Hello Ryan,

thank you for understanding and sorry that I don't look into it some more, I know about the technical debt, but right now I am working on some more pressing issues.

By the way if you are interest in the Wear add-on and you are a developer, you can totally play with it and hack it in any ways you want, it is completely open-sourced. Here is the repository

Any cool changes made by the community could be merged back to the master for official release with proper attribution on Google Play. So if you feel like playing around and would have something to add to the add-on that could benefit other users definitely contact me any time through the help desk or directly via email milan.cejnar(at)asamm.com

Have a nice weekend
