new POI/geocache screen is very slow

Solved

Hello,

since Locus got the new Geocache screen it takes around 5sec till it is opened. I'm no more able to answer the question "oh, what is this?"! I deleted almost all caches, run clean in settings but it isn't faster. I tested the older version once again: maybe it is because of the 2 screens (small one and big detailed one), but it runs much faster.

Please have a look, a response time like this is very very unhandy.

If needed I can provide any log files.

Good day Uawg,

firstly I have to ask if you have installed latest Locus version 2.20.2 (in menu > information). It's very important, because in this version were done optimizations that speed up this new screen a lot.

Then a few questions

  • did you tried to hide map on first tab. Has it any effect?
  • when you long-click on map and tap on address popup, how long it take till "Point screen" appear?
  • is this quite crazy 5 seconds delay happen with all caches or just with any? For example with thouse that has a long listing or a lot of images inside.

Thanks for answers. On Note2, there should be in worst case delay around 1-1.5 second, not more.

Thx for your fast reply, that's my main reason that Locus is my prefered app :-)

Yes I got 2.20.2

  • did you tried to hide map on first tab. Has it any effect?
    > sorry how to do this?
  • when you long-click on map and tap on address popup, how long it take till "Point screen" appear?
  • > ~1 sec

basic date (using the GC plugin) it takes 5 sec (also if is one out of the local db). It looks that there is no differnece because of the images. But if I hit it once, normaly the next hit one
the some cache is about 2-3 sec

I also send you a logfile using email

Hi,

sorry for a few days delay. I'm checking your log (thanks for it btw.). There is still repeating two errors. One is some weird problem with closing 'Point screen' and second is because of missing Elevation model file (to fix it, run again - Altitude manager > Altitude offset > Automatic). Anyway both has nothing to do with slow screen.

You wrote it take up to 5 secs. What you see most time? Black screen or loading dialog? You speak about loading cases with "Basic data from GC plugin". In this case anyway, when you tap on cache, GC add-on connects to internet to download additional data!! and then screen may appear. So it's even slower. Best to test it is import some PocketQuery file or download and import! full caches over G4L add-on, not just basics. So try it please. 2-3 seconds are still quite a lot, but it's much better then 5.

And to hide map - in point screen on map overview is small arrow, so tap it.

Hello, thx for feedback. Is it our luck or not - yesterday crashed my sd card. So I was forced to reinstall on internal storage. And: no it opens the POI dialog within ~2 sec. That's much better!

I will recheck. For the first step my problem is solved :-)

Thx!

Hi,

this is very interesting. Because you had to re-install locus, you maybe get rid of few errors I mentioned above. Interesting is, that they have effect on speed of this screen.

Anyway fine it works as expected. 2 seconds is max. I hope I'll find a way to reduce it a little bit, but for now it's best what I can do.

If such problem appear again, let me know. I should create any crazy debug version that will print out every possible changes to log and that should help find a problem.
